Any of you guys ever had blood check while cycling? My hdl was 22/ ldl 210. Not good according to the doc. Also, alkaline phosphatase was high at 181. Anyone shed any light on this?

I am only 28 and very cardio fit! Not at all overweight. Only done 3 cycles.

HDL and LDL, (high density and low density lipoproteins), are part of your lipid profile, total cholesterol. They are essentially the way your body shuttles fat involved in metabolisim. I wish I could explaine why they are elevated during a cycle but I don't know excatly but I will look it up in some refference texts for you when I get a minute.

Alk. phos is an enzyme present in elevated levels in young patients especially in teens during puberty. It correlates to growth of bone and muscle, this is a good thing!

Get back to you later on the hdl & ldl......Barbell265

Ideally you want your LDL below 100 and HDL at 40 or higher. These are the current guidelines, but these could always change. Remember this is ideal. Many people won't have a profile this good off juice, and probably very, very few will have numbers this good while on a cycle.

Oh yeah, anti-estrogens can also have a negative impact on cholesterol levels. If you're on nolvadex, arimidex, etc. this could be another part of the problem. Once you come off your levels SHOULD improve.

I thought nolvadex and clomid helped cholesterol and it was just arimidex and letrozole that hurt your lipid profile?

Thanks, barbell. The doc was giving me shit. I know my lipid panel is pretty bad. The alkaline phosphatase was worrying me, he said I could have a form of cancer and that I should stop gear and do a re-check.

I looked it up and it is correlated with higher androgen levels. It is just a good reminder that gear does have invisible affects and people should be aware. I am a very healthy dude and by no means do heavy cycles and still get negative impacts.

Good reason to get blood work and make sure you take proper recovery time.

Yes galaxy that is the theory and I believe there is research to back it up, nolva and/or clomid will act to impart estrogen benefits in regards to lipid profile, while ldex would just make matters worse. But even with some clomid or nolva in the mix it a high androgen / estrogen ratio will still degrade the profile significantly.

Sorry about including nolvadex in my example. I wasn't really thinking earlier. I had a hell of a test this morning and only one hour of sleep last night. When I said anti-estrogens, I was talking about aromatase inhibitors (things that actually lower estrogen levels).

Increased alkaline phosphatase levels are INDICATIVE of several things including growth spurts, some tumor growth, and various liver problems. It can also be influenced by drug/hormone levels. This is not to say that alk. phos. CAUSES anything, rather it is a sign of something else going on. So, you were thinking right. Hopefully (and probably) it will be due to androgen levels, and you won't have any real underlying problems.

Good Luck.
