Just to clarify, when you are cutting, you always eat below your maintenance? You don't even have a clean cheat day?
 
For me, controlling carbs is critical. I don't consume more than 1g/lb and most are consumed first thing i the morning and around my workouts. I keep protein at 1.5g/lb and fat low, around .25g/lb. I do carb cycle and twice a week I add about 100g of carbs to my diet but those days I tend to have some "junk" food after my workout.
