I'll chime in at the risk of being glossed fat bastard:D

I've been on a low carb diet for the past 13 months and just passed the 125 lb lost mark. It's the only thing I've been able to stay on that works for me. For the guy who commented about the losses slowing down, my losses have increased this year. The months of March & April have been the best yet.

Do you need carbs? Sure you do, its the type of carbs that get you. For example, I am eating more vegtables now than at any time in my life. I don't eat sugar, bread, pasta, rice, etc.

I have plenty of energy.......you'll find that after the first 3 weeks or so, your body gets more efficient at burning fat and increasing energy levels.

Bottom line is that it works without screwing with insulin levels. But low fat diets work too for some people. The only diet that doesn't work is the one you can't stay on.

Better go......that pound of bacon I'm frying is just about done :bday:
 
Low carb diets shouldn't be compared to other diets on a pound per pound basis, as ketosis drastically lowers water retention, and therefore weight. Looking at the scale for fat loss is ridiculous.
 
of course they should. The water loss is only apparent in the early stages of the diet. As anyone who has been ona low carb diet will tell you, the fat loss is very real.

Diet that worked for me

I got on a diet that is medium in carbs, high protein & low-med fat. I take my carbs/fat during the day and keep reducing them as the day goes by.

This has worked for me wonders. I have been on it 1 year, noticed results gradually after 3-4 months, but very to no muscle loss. In fact muscle size has increased from AS.

I think everyone needs to find a diet and stick to it. It all depends on your goal!

One thing people always seem to overlook when talking about the adtkins diet is that he doesnt recommend ketosis 365 days a year, thats just a starting point to help you get to your weight goals and at that point you slowly intoruce more carbs until you learn where your carb intake should be.

I don't know the specifics of the diet, but it seems like you're supposed to still eat few carbs that will let you remain in ketosis. I believe he says you can increase the carbs once you reach your ideal weight, but only enough that you don't start gaining back... which would seem like staying in ketosis.

So what? Do you think that people eating high protein and fat lost muscle and the low fat people lost only fat? Lions eat virtually nothing but animal flesh (protein and fat -- NO carbohydrates) and they are strong, lean, and muscular.
