And yet another steel cut oats question...

Ok, I just got some steel cut oats in...

1) How do you cook it? I only have a microwave right now for the next couple of weeks before I move, so I need an easy way to do it. I've read somewhere on these boards about soaking them overnight, is that any good?

2) I'm slowly going to a bulking diet, but I'm not sure when to eat these. Morning, Pre/Post WO?

3) Suggestions on no/low calorie additions to add to it for taste?

Thanks!

By the way, I'm 21, 5'10.5", 235lb, 18% bf, training for several years now.

Here's a rundown of my diet. The formatting looks like crap because I copied it from excel. The numbers beside it are the calories for that item.

I'm SWITCHING to a bulking diet... I haven't added all the calories I plan to add yet.

5:20 protein shake (water) 110
6:30 scrambled eggs 200
6:30 fruit 200
9:00 Chicken (t) 120
9:00 single serv. box of cereal 60-100
10:45 protein shake (water) 110

10:45 4 Chicken tenderloin strips 120
12:50 hard boiled egg 75
12:50 single serv. box of cereal 60-100
13:50 peanuts 340
14:45 4 Chicken tenderloin strips 120
14:45 apple 90
16:45 Tuna w/ ff mayo 180
16:45 2 slices lite bread 70

18:15 apple (pwo) 90
19:15 egg 75
19:15 tuna salad 240
20:15 1 slice lite bread 35
20:15 ANPB 210
20:15 pshake water 110

Total cal: ~3300-3400
Protein: ~325g
Carbs: ~260g (excluding fiber)
Fat: ~105g

I also have a tbsp of flax oil spread between my first and last protein shakes. My salads have no salad dressing, but have broccoli, cucumbers, and 1/4 cup of fiber one cereal in it.

It looks strange, like the "single serving box of cereal", because I get that crap from my galley (I'm in the military).

I am removing the Single serving boxes of cereal and gonna put the oatmeal there, but I'm not sure how I'm gonna reorganize it yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I only put them in my shake, so this is what I do..

On Sunday mornings I put 1 1/2 cups into 6 cups of boiling water... After watching the water boil for a few minutes (because I find it hypnotic) I turn down the dial and leave it to simmer for about 30 minutes or so. Then I transfer to a tupperware container and throw it in the fridge. Then each morning when I make my shake I scoop out 1/2 cup, microwave it on high for about 35 seconds and put it in the blender. That gets me enough for the whole week, and then on Sundays I do it all over again.

i just chug em down with my protein shake... try to chew and you get owned lol... if i have time i'll cook/ drain then put in my shake... either way, not exactly a treat.

I cant eat them becasue they dont get soft in milk, regular oats i just put in milk, wait a few minutes and eat it with a spoon, steel cut you cant do that.
