I am a college student and it is hard to quit drinking completely. so if i drink twice a week will that effect my workout completely, cause i work out hard 5,6 days a week. ? also if i am gonna drink what is worse to drin beer or liquor?

What weighs more, 1000 lbs of cotton or a 1000 lbs of steel?

Alcohol is alcohol my friend and carries lots of wasted calories. 6 beers are equal to a shot of 90 proof whiskey more or less, but don't quote me on this. However, if you truly have problems going a few days , a week, or even a month without it then unfortunately you have other problems. And by the way, its progressive (meaning the desire gets greater as you continue to drink)

I would do a search on alcohol on the NET if I were you. You should educate yourself as to what this really is. You will also find good information comparing different types of liquor and how many calories they contain.

To most of the bodybuilders on this board, of which I am NOT one of them, alcoohol is poison (it actually is poison to all of us) and is to be be avoided at all costs.

Might as well post..."Hi, I'm a recovering crack addict. I've found working out 5 or 6 times per week keeps my mind focused, and I don't feel like smoking crack. But, is it O.K. if I do it once or twice a week, or will that totally screw up my recovery process? Also, what is worse, powdered crack, or crack rock?"

LOL. You're mean, but funny. I guess the truth hurts sometimes.

Well that's one way to look at it. Humans have been drinking wine and mead since a very long time ago (for instance look at all the biblical references to wine). In modern terms we know that moderate consumption of beer or wine is beneficial to general health in many people. We also know that people who regularly drink alcohol have an increased calorie intake, but this doesn't lead to eatra weight gain. We also know that a lot of alcohol calories are burned off as heat rather than stored as fat. We also know that alcohol calories will be used preferentially to all other calories, so from a weight loss point of view you are better off drinking on an empty stomach. We also know that excess alcohol is very hard on you liver, kidneys, heart, brain, etc.....Alcohol can be addictive.

Excess alcohol drains your body of many vitamins and minerals, but in moderation can assist the uptake of many nutrients and aid digestion. Not saying yah or nay to alcohol, I just want you to know that it is a two-edged sword. At your age I suspect the urge to abuse alcohol will far outwiegh any socail or health benefits you may gain from it, but that's purely speculative.

moderate drinking in college is not a sign of aloholism. its a sign of being normal. obviously the less you drink the better. But you dont have to cut it out completely unless you plan on being a professional bodybuilder.
