Why is eating right so expensive?

dude send me some of that kangaroo!!!

I too was thinking of the cost of eating healthy, or a bodybuilders diet, and concluded that it's totally worth it. Junk food makes you feel like shit. What your getting is totally natural, the way it's meant to be, even if you pay out your arse for it. Junk food has tonnes of additives, chemicals, that just wern't meant to be, thus filling out food, giving it a longer shelf life etc. If you think about it, thousands of years ago our job was to survive, by eating, and catching our own food (getting fit) Personally, If I can work, and not have to go out and catch chickens, pick fruit and veg, catch fish, milk a cow, then I'm pretty happy to be spending a good percentage of my wage for it to be natural!!! People were just born spoilt with $1 burgers at mcdonalds lol.

BODYBUILDING - BECAUSE FIT, IS THE NEW RICH!

It's true in relation to carbohydrate sources that the bodybuilder's diet is totally natural, (i.e., un processed unrefined carbohydrates) and therefore resembles our ancient ancestors, but I think the hunter gathers many years ago would have consumed far more saturated fat - i.e., if they killed an animinal, it can be doubted they would trip of the white fat parts

It's true, but it's true also that our ancestors didn't care about their bf. :)

they didn't need to care, trying to catch an animal would use up all that fat, probably why people think fat is so tasty, because it's in our genetics as a high energy source.

Hello, the answer is that in this capitalist system which is a profit-based system, the Multinational Corporations of the food-sector rip higher profits in fattening, and starchy carbohydrate foods like Pancakes, White Breads, Duncan Himes Cakes, Sara Lee Cakes, Apple Pies, than in healthy foods like pineapples, apples, brocolli, carrots, etc.

You have to realize that healthy food is not addicting, which is why people do not binge on apples or on brocoli, but corporate fattening foods like cakes, chocolates, Mcdonalds, Doritos, have addicting components, which is even better for corporations, as opposed to healthy foods that are not addicting

I mean it is cheaper for corporations to make pancakes, breads and cookies than it is to make brocoli which requires a real slower process

It seems like the only thing that's fairly cheap is peanut butter and brown rice.

Chicken, tuna, and meat in general is very expensive.

Almonds and cashews are really expensive.

Fruits, especiall berries, are expensive with fewer calories.

Vegtables are cheap, but you need to eat so many different kinds that it winds up being expensive.

Olive oil is expensive. (Canola isn't, but it's not as healthy.)

Protein shakes are damn expensive.

I'd really like to know how a poor person could even remotely eat healthy. Seems like fastfood is 1/4 the price. And yet the rich people are the fat ones...

What the hell do people spend their money on? Hot pockets?

I have found that the key to cheap and healthy eating is to plan your meals and a membership at a discount club. I buy 2 weeks worth at each visit. A typical list will include:

1 bag frozen tuna steaks or salmon fillets
1 top or bottom steak (cut into serving sizes when I get home)
16 cans of tuna
1 bag of frozen chicken breasts
1 large bag of mixed nuts (all nuts are a good not just almonds)
2.5 dozen eggs
frozen veggies (cheaper, quicker, and just as healthy)

Every few days on the way home from work I buy in season fresh fruit (in season fruit is cheaper). I try to eat all protein from whole food sources and have recently quit eating dairy products. With a little creativity you will never get bored with the above list.
