Why do squats feel so awkward??

Are you pushing your butt back and then down or just bending your knees? Remember that a squat is a backward and forward motion more than an up and down.

A box will help perfect that motion.

I'm new to them, too. They do feel funny at first.

that aint shiit :p :angel: I'm a scrawny azz at 178 lbs and i do 9 plates on each side. LMAO
 
I think the people here are trying to gauge whether you squat more like an olympic lifter (with a lot of knee movement) or more like a powerlifter (with minimal knee movement). Also, whether you are doin a wide foot placement or close together. Just keep at it, squats are tough but very rewarding. I was in a position similar to your's not tooo long ago.
