...try shrug downs on a lat pull machine.


Load up 50% more thaan you would use on pulldowns, wide grip keep arms strainght and contract midback/trap area by pulling downwards and in......
 
I've also heard of sitting on milt. press, lifting and locking out the weight, and then pressing it w/ your traps... I've never tried this... has any tried it w/ any luck???

Very similar....The pulldowns work better for me...but try both and see which you prefer.
 
Reverse Shrugs is how I heard these referred to.

What about technique on this? Can I cheat a little bit to get my shoulder blades as close together as possible and then squeeze for a second or do I use a slow controlled pull/squeeze. That make sense? Explosive-type-contraction/squeeze/controlled-release or controlled-contraction/controlled-release.

Both.

strict with good squeeze and add weight and cheat a little
