The Transformation continues !

Tuesday, March 8

I'm a day late updating. I came into work Monday morning to find out that my wonderful PRIVATE office is now being shared for the next 3 months with a very nice but very young, by the book, nurse. So...it's cramping my style! I cannot be seen with anything related to steroids on my screen or she will be telling on me.

I was so tired last night that I went to bed about 9:45 and didn't have the energy to get my log updated.

Here's what my day looked like:

5:15 am
45 mins of cardio - the usual elliptical HR about 135.

My workout later that evening was a little bit of a gong show. The gym was packed and of course, anything I wanted to use was busy. So I improvised a little bit but got the core exercises in.

Hang cleans
3 sets of 10 - bar only

Leg Press
90 - 10
90 - 10
140 - 10
140 - 10

SLDL
90 - 10
90 - 10
140 - 10
140 - 10

Seated leg curls
3 sets of 10 at 80 lbs
supersetted with single leg
3 sets of 10 at 30 lbs

Cardio was 10 mins warm up and 15 mins post workout..both walking on the treadmill. HR only 130. I was bagged.

The clen headaches are getting better. I just had a touch of one in the morning and that was it. What I did notice last night is a different feel in my muscles, which I'm sure is from the clen. After the first set on the leg press, I was sure I'd ripped every muscle fibre in my quads. Not really painful but just that feeling of "oh that's not gonna be good". I'm a little sore today but now my butt and quads match my still painful calves! Might as well go for the whole crippled look right?!? ;) My strength is varying more too but the diet and extra cardio are impacting that, as is less sleep during the week. All to be expected.

Diet was on track yesterday....1700 calories right on the nose. Food commercials are becoming more annoying and it's hard to work on a unit where they cook for the kids and I get to smell all the great food. But....then I remember 5 1/2 more weeks and it doesn't seem as bad. :)

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

On a diet note....I'm always interested in what people's diets look like so I'll post my newly revised meal plan. It's basic and boring! 5 meals, 1700 calories.

1/4 cup steel cut oatmeal
8 egg whites
1 tbsp flax seed (I grind it)
100 g mushrooms

200 g romaine lettuce
60 g cucumbers
60 g peppers
1 tin tuna
I used some of the tuna water and lemon &herb spices..makes a decent salad.

6 oz chicken/ tilapia
200 g veggies (the Costco broccoli, carrot, cauliflower mix)

6 oz chicken/ tilapia
200g veggies

6 oz chicken/tilapia
200g veggies
6 oz grapefruit

I use hot sauce a fair bit and caramel topping from Walden Farms. I think I'll be making up that emergency sugar free jello tonight just to have it on hand.

I started the contest at about 185 lbs. After my 3 week diet thing I did earlier in the contest, I was up to 189. I got back down to 186 and then since starting this diet on Saturday weighed in this morning at 183.8. It's so small in terms of the contest but in the bigger picture, a huge victory for me. I have had to fight my body for every oz lost and it feels great. The higher fat diets do not seem to work well for me and it's a lesson learned. I've been taking notes! :)

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Wednesday, March 9th

Up and in the gym at 5:15 am for the usual 45 minutes of cardio.

My day has been pretty run of the mill except for one thing and I need some help and feedback on this! Please...anyone reading with any ideas, please share.

As the day has progressed my right leg has become increasingly sore. It's only on the right side. It has become a sore numbness...like pins and needles. It starts right at my lower back, where it connects to my butt and goes right down. Even my toes are tingly. It hurts but it's not a really painful thing..more of a throbbing ache and tingle. Any type of impact though would hurt...so for example, I tried skipping rope tonight at the gym and just the impact of my jump hurt the whole leg. It's the feeling if you jumped on your leg if it was asleep.

I was trying to ignore it, suck it up and all that good stuff and my son came to the gym with me tonight, as moral support. I had decided I wouldn't lift but get in some extra cardio. We did 15 mins of cardio on these Precor crosstrainer machines. We went to jump rope but that didn't last long for me, so I laid on a mat on the floor with my feet up on a big ball and watched him skip for 15 mins. Which..I thought was hilarious to just lay there in the group room looking like I'm working out but he slowly skipped over to the other side of the room!

Anyway....if anyone has any ideas or thoughts, I'm open. My mom told me it sounded like a nerve ie: sciatic nerve. But what do you do for that type of thing? Ride it out?

I have been in a groove and finally seeing some progress and do not want any more obstacles! I'm really trying to keep a positive attitude. Tonight, I'd like to chop off my leg. :)

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

sounds like a pinched nerve to me, could be sciatic or some other one even... if you are able to, a massage therapist can sometimes work it out, other than that i dont think there is much you can do for it... maybe stretching could help?

you rocked those SLDL's the other day, nice work!... though im wondering if that was a contributer to you leg pain...
hopefully things feel improved over a good nights rest...

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

it does sound like some inflammation impinging a bit on the sciatic nerve. If it is triggered by a a bit of inflammation, there is some research that suggests the Clen might actually help.

Brain, Behavior, and Immunity Journal of Nov 2010

In conclusion, the β(2)-adrenoceptor agonist clenbuterol has anti-inflammatory and neurotrophic actions and elicits a neuroprotective effect in the KA model of neurodegeneration.

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Thanks for the info everyone! I read the links and it definitely sounds like the sciatic nerve. Interesting article on the clen, RW. I took some ibuprofen this morning and it took the edge off a bit. I'm sure it's from something I did with legs the other night. I can feel the pressure point right in my lower back where it seems to be originating. I tried to get in to my doc but he's booked for almost 2 weeks so we'll see how the day goes and I may hit a walk in clinic later or see if one of the docs here might help me out.

Thanks again everyone. I don't know a lot about this type of thing and have never experienced this before so appreciate the help! :)

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Yep agree with everyone else. That dammed sciatic nerve. If your up for it you might try accupuncture too. It works for me for some things and not for others.
Dam sista so sorry to see this happen. Hopefully it will cease to bother you.
RADAR wanted to PM you but said your box was either full or dissfunctional in some way....just fyi.

Thanks Zed! I was able to connect with Radar too so thanks for the info. :)

I spoke to one of the docs I work with today who said pretty much everything you all said. Sciatic nerve. I've been taking a therapeutic dose of ibuprofen today to help the inflammation and went for a massage after work. It was painful but helped. Now if only the masseuse was some hot, half naked man...it would have been perfect! ;)

Doc told me I should be avoiding exercise to let the thing heal. It's not in my plan really but I decided not to go to the gym tonight and I'm feeling a bit of antsy. I know in my head I need to let it settle but it's going to be tough. I'll see how it's feeling tomorrow and maybe do some upper body stuff in the evening. I'll keep the diet tight and hopefully a day or two off won't be too bad.

So...I stopped and rented the first season of the Walking Dead and am relaxing on the couch. Gotta love Zombies!

Thanks to all of you for the help today!

good to hear you got checked out. you know, you could always just focus on a super tight diet and stretching for a few days, and it could work to your benefit, you know, not overdoing it. maybe use the time for recharging?
hope it heals up soon...

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

walking dead had too short of a season... definately leaves you wanting more, i cant wait until the second season starts...
if i dont sleep on my back i usually end up with somthing hurting by the time i wake up... hope you are feeling better...

I agree Trex. I was thinking about more last night and thought...I need to let it settle or it will be worse and I'll be further behind. I'm going to most likely rest more today and play it by ear for the weekend. :)

I agree Trex. I'm feeling better today...probably at least 50% but as I thought about it more, allowing it to heal makes sense. I can keep my diet on track, strech it out and take it day by day. A recharge sounds great too! Plus it's still so freakin cold here and I just want to hibernate! -23 this morning...-30 with wind. Seriously...getting old! ;)

I know...I watched the whole season last night! Granted, I stayed up till midnight but still! I really enjoyed it though. When does the second season start??

I'm definitely moving in the right direction. I can feel it the minute the ibuprofen wears off but it's not the same as it was even earlier today. The tingling has almost all but gone away and now it's just a more a dull ache along the back of my leg and my toes/ foot. My son is out tonight and I've been debating going to the gym but decided to just sit for one more day. I think I'll go in the morning and do some upper body stuff.

I hear ya on the tired, although I'm sure part of it for you is your ultra low bf!! 5 more weeks!!

And...October seems way too long for Season 2. Geez!

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Well...it's Saturday morning and it's supposed to be warmer today. I was all geared up to go run stairs and I'm just not sure if I should be doing that! Man I hate injuries or whatever this thing is. I think I'll give the stairs till tomorrow but I'm going to head over to the gym and do some upper body stuff. It's amazing when you start thinking about what exercises you can do vs ones that will aggravate the lower back/ legs. I can feel the spot where this is all originating...it's right in my lower back on the right hand side. My lower back is one of my weaker areas too. I know hyper extensions can help the lower back. I'll have to search up some other ones too.

After the gym, I'm off to soccer tryouts for my son. I had a one week break from anything soccer and it begins again. One more year and then he can be driving himself around. :)

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Drop the stairs hunny pie. It appears that those are what got your sciatic pissed at you in the first place. Stick with your Tabota and reg stuff. Gotta keep those dam injuries at bay sista!
Yup enjoyed The Walking Dead too.

I think it was a combination of being sore from the stairs and this....

I used this machine to do some squats, only you face the weights and have you feet high up on the platform, so it targets your glutes. The spot on my lower back is still sore but the pain and numbness in my leg is gone.

I didn't lift yesterday but did some light cardio. I walked for about an hour through the mall. Everything feels ok so I'm heading to the gym this afternoon. My son has more soccer so I'll drop him off and go workout. I will hit an upper body workout and may keep the weights lighter.

Have a great Sunday! :)

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Sunday, March 13th

I hit the gym this afternoon after a few days break. It felt good to be back in there. I stuck with a simple shoulder workout.

DB Shoulder Press
17.5 - 12
17.5 - 10
20 - 6
22.5 - 3
25 - 6
25 - 6
25 - 6

Side lat raises
15 - 10
15 - 10
15 - 10

Upright Row
40 - 10
40 - 10
40 - 10

Rear Pec Deck
40 - 10
50 - 10
50 - 10

Ended with 45 mins of cardio on the elliptical with an avg HR of 135.

My back was a little bit tight afterwards but nothing major and I don't have any tingling in my leg/ foot. I'll be back to early morning cardio tomorrow. :)

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

it makes me think that dexter isnt a good enough reason to keep showtime...

It will make it easier to have people go back in forth as they progress or hit a slump.
Unfortunately it takes some competition away in regards to fighter pay.
Hopefully this leads to a mma channel and less ppv, but i doubt it.
More likely some super fights will happen.
Faster to get on a world stage, hopefully bring in greater talent

mixed feelings over all

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Glad that things seem to be getting back to normal for you chika!
Do a super good WU before any legs work tho!

I've been downloading dexter...could probably help you out there!! I love that show too and Canada is always a season behind!

I'd be shocked to see less PPV too. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I wish I was going to the UFC debut in Toronto this year. It's gonna be awesome!!

Thanks Zed. I'll probably save legs for a bit later in the week. I had a bit of numbness today in my leg. Just a bit. :)

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Monday, March 14th

Today was just a cardio day. I did a double session...2 45 min sessions. One this morning and one after work today. I'm dragging it a bit today with the time change but...we actually got above freezing today! Hooray! It's a miracle. :)

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

I just finished watching the show Heavy. I love this show. I love to see the people challenge themselves beyond what they ever thought possible and feel the excitement when they start seeing results. I find this show inspiring on so many levels and can really relate to so many of the struggles these people talk about. My dream job would be to work in a one of those facilities and do the counseling aspect of weight loss.

A special friend of mine shared this quote with me recently...

"Don't judge someone by the number of times they've been knocked down, judge them by the number of times they have picked themselves back up and tried again."

The last few days, I have had some personal challenges and I had completely checked out of the contest mentally. I hit that wall where I really questioned myself, my place in the contest and my reasons for continuing. It really has felt like one obstacle after another and I honestly hit that "forget this" point.

I read that quote and I actually printed it out and put it on my fridge. It struck me and made me remember why I joined this thing in the first place. It was to push myself out of the rut I've been in, challenge my comfort zones and remind myself that I am capable of setting a goal and sticking to it. It has been therapy in a way. I have faced each and every challenge head on and not always dignified but I have grown tremendously on a personal level. Many of you have helped me do that..giving me feedback and support.

And so..I continue on. It's no longer about competing with everyone else...it's about competing with myself and finishing this 12 weeks regardless of the outcome. I've had a mental shift and re-learned some valuable life lessons in the last few days.

Thank you to those of you who have checked in on me, pm'd or emailed me. Even the k messages help me out. :)

Nothing but smooth sailing from here on out!

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Good for you chika. Really thats what it has been about for the duration. You, each one of you competing against yourselves. After all that is the most challenging of all.
Am glad to see that you caught your breath and are back on it my gurl.
Stay tuff and good luck chika!

Choice words Roxy.. that's the fighting spirit. This quote is fridge-worthy!!

Thanks Zed. :)

Yesterday, I trained chest and tris. My workout sheet is at my office but....I did 3 exercises for each, 3 sets each.

Chest was:

Bench press
Incline press with DB's
Cable cross overs

Tris:

Pushdowns
Dips
Kickbacks

Followed by 20 mins of cardio on the treadmill...HR 135.

I am still having some periodic numbness in my right leg so I've been a little cautious with doing anything that involves heavy leg work but will be looking at increasing volume/ exercises this weekend.

With the time change, I could not get out of bed Monday/ Tuesday morning. That would have been like getting up at 4 am and my body was rebelling.

My diet is still at 1700 calories. I'm not having too much trouble with it although am noticing that loss of stamina in the gym. Cardio is just a little bit harder and some of my weights feel heavier then normal but overall, the diet is ok. It's not my first diet rodeo though, so doesn't feel quite as traumatic as that first hardcore cut felt. I don't think I'll cut it too much lower actually. The lower I go, the higher my risk of cheating so unless the scale really stalls out, I'll keep it as is.

Supplement wise...still doing the 10 mg anavar, 75 mcg T3 and up to 60 mcg clen. I feel a bit smaller but flat too. It's the lack of complex carbs. Looking forward to that final carb load before the last set of pics. :)

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

wish i could see these dang plat pics.

Keep at it rox. You're positive attitude keeps me going. I need that.

You cant "forget this" now, you've already sacrificed wayy too much. Just keep pushing!

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Nice pic.. I love sunrise / sunset shots, it is a bit hard to see the fog but I can picture it in my mind.

Getting up early really sets a positive tone for the whole day, I religously used to workout in the mornings but haven't recently,

Keep up the good work!!

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

that is a beautiful pic rox...
i love the fog... it is my favorite 'winter' weather...

it might help if you give your leg some exersise... when my lower back is strained (which i get somewhat often) i get stiff if i dont use it... i know yours is a nerve issue, but it may help work it out if you use it, keep it loose... you could even try some yoga in the sauna... my lower back loves Upward Dog...

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Friday, March 18

I want to start by telling you all that I have been trying for 2 days to find the most appropriate words for this post. There doesn’t seem to be any.

Some things have transpired, over this last week, that have left me in a dilemma and at a real crossroads. It reminds me of the poem by Robert Frost – The Road Not Taken….Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both….

I have decided that I will be withdrawing from the contest. It is with very mixed emotions that I share this decision. Out of respect for my fellow competitors, as well as for myself, I am choosing not to make public the reasons why I have come to this decision. I have spent the last day or so contacting those of you who have really supported me from day one and you already know. If I have missed anyone in that list, I apologize, and would gladly discuss it privately.

I just want you all to know that this, by no means, is a reflection on my commitment to continue dieting or training. It will be easy to assume I’m quitting. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. If there’s one thing my time in this contest has given me, it’s a renewed love of training and working toward a goal. I really have worked myself out of the training and dieting rut that I was stuck in for a long time. My weight has finally started dropping and I have been able to maintain some consistency for a period of time. I will be back on stage sometime in the future and this has been a great way to jump start that. I am withdrawing because it is the right thing to do, given the situation, and I need to preserve my own integrity and esteem.

Let me finish this by saying a true and sincere thank you to all of you who have supported me and followed my log. I have gained some real friends out of this experience and I am humbled by the support you each have given me. I may continue to log my progress as I’ve had fun with that part of this.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I –
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
- Robert Frost

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Thanks for letting us know Roxy.
I sincerly hope the very best for you.
Best regards,
Zed

Re: 84 Days...T Contest Log

Saturday, March 19

I'm working on getting my log name changed but I'm going to keep logging my progress. It's still the same game...just on a different playing field now. :)

Today was an off day of lifting for me but...I decided to face my evil nemesis...the river valley stairs. It was not any easier! I still thought my lungs were going to jump out of my throat. I dragged my son along and he could have easily doubled what I did. I don't think he even started breathing heavy. I did the 4 sets of stairs and am home with jello legs now.

Everything else is status quo.

I went to see the movie Paul last night. It's pretty funny if you like that type of humor. :)

I just saw the message you left me. I just hope you're ok T. Seriously, let me know if you need anything. You can always send me your primo :):) If ya want Hahaha

Sunday, March 20

I had a kick ass workout today! I trained legs. I've gone back to the Max OT training formula but using some of the compound lifts that Zed got me doing. I'm still cutting and at a lower carb level so wanted to lower volume slightly but keep my lifts relatively heavy.

Started with 10 mins of warm up intervals on the treadmill. 2 mins walking, 2 mins jogging - incline 3, HR 150.

Leg Press
no weight - 20
90 - 10
180 - 6
270 - 3
270 - 5
270 - 4
270 - 6
*I supersetted with calf raises...same number of sets, same weight, each set 10.

Squats
90 - 8
140 - 6
140 - 6

Seated Leg Curls
90 - 10
120 - 6
120 - 6

SLDL
90 - 8
90 - 6
90 - 6

Donkee Calf Raises
3 sets of 12 at 260 lbs

I finished with what I like to call cardio therapy. I did 30 mins of low intensity cardio on the treadmill with a good friend. He will be competing at the North American's this year and then the Canadian Nationals. It was great to debrief and just talk about my life lately, training, dieting and all the challenges that come with contest prep lifestyles with someone who is at that level. I felt renewed and even more more motivated to keep going with my personal transformation.

I've been thinking about goals and am going to finish out the 12 week cut, as originally planned, and then decide from there. I am not sure I'm ready to put stage prep back on the table and may keep working towards dropping fat but keeping a healthy balance in my life. I can compete in October or not until next June so we'll see how things progress. I'll probably do a one week diet break and then start cutting again. I've done more socializing this weekend then I have in the last 2 months and it's felt pretty good. I'm pretty sure I have spring fever (even though it freakin snowed here again today) and I want to be out having some fun too. :)

Thanks, Radar, for changing the title for me. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the note Rick!

I may have a taker for the primo already but it not...I'll let ya know. :)

"Oh, the weather outside is frightful..." LOL..Seriously though...again with the snow?!? Cars in the ditch, blowing snow and all that good stuff! It never ends! It's no wonder we drink so much up here! Geez!

On that note, I did not get up for morning cardio this morning. It was one of those nights where I'm sure I saw every hour on the clock and I could hear the wind blowing and it seemed much easier to reset the clock.

I was on a timeline tonight but got into the gym for a chest/ abs workout.

Bench Press
bar - 20
20 - 10
40 - 6
50 - 4
50 - 6
50 - 5
50 - 5

Did leg raises in between each set of bench press. Butt at the edge of the bench. 7 sets of 10.

Incline DB Press
25 - 10
30 - 6
35 - 4

Dips
Got 5 unassisted
3 sets of 8 assisted

I'm gonna be sore! My chest/ arms were shaky.

Finished with just 10 mins of cardio...my usual intervals on the treadmill.

I've had a couple of comments recently on how I look like I've lost weight. I have varying sizes of gym clothes and I'm just about ready to put the "fat" pair away because I can't pull the string any tighter and I just about lost them tonight in the gym. My gym is very multi cultural and there is a large population of guys from the Philippines there. A few of them always chat with me about my training, diet and tonight one of them, in his broken English, told me I looked "less fat". I must have given him a funny look because then he said.."I mean you're losing body fat". LOL Hey man..I'll take it! Anything that involves less fat is working for me! :)

Good updates my gurl and thanks for keeping up your log on here.
Very good gains in your workouts too. Just be careful on those stairs with your sciatic thingy!
LOL on the less fat philippino comment. Gotta love the Philippinos!
Best regards and good luck in your venture!

Hey Roxy... How's everything going? I have been flat out but seen your recent posts and I hope everything is ok...
