Sudden Death and Gear

Not a thread we like to see, but a topic that must be discussed regardless..

A girl from my work had her brother die 2 weeks ago of a sudden heart attack, he was 29.

She mentioned that he didnt do drugs, or smoke, and lived a daily life in the gym. Apprenetly he had used gear...I dont know what or for how long I mean her bro's dead I am not gonna ask those questions...anyways...

Dead so young...I wonder if he hadnt used gear if he would still be dead?

Healthy people and non gear users die young from sudden death but I wonder how much gear "does actually" contribute to that? Everyone is different I am sure...but dont answer in a baised view just cause u do gear...

What do U guys really think? Can regular blood work, ECG's, and Xrays give a pretty good diagnosis for someone who has a heart defect?

My sympathy to your friend and her family.

Since he was only 29...I think there was something going on other than gear.

its always a concern to me bro but I honestly dont think that it has anything to do with the 29 yo guy dying. he may have had an undiagnosed heart problem or could have been doing some rec drug that noone knew about. Look at the pros and all the gear they do(granted they probably take loads more tests than we do) and they arent just dropping off left and right. I honestly think about it, but with the dosage that most of us do(moderate at best) we are not any more likely to die suddenly than anyone else our ages. good question, but a little spooky none the less.

I would have to say so also. Arnold and Ferrigno both made it past 29 and used ALOT of gear when they were young. Gear MIGHT be a contributing factor if there is a pre-existing problem, but so are alot of things. Eating processed food being high on that list...which most Americans do.

Hmmm some very good points here...thats why i love this board...but how (in your opinion) accurate are ECG's, blood work, and Xrays to determin if u have some pre exsisting heart prob...look at John Ritter the guy lived to be 50 something but dropped dead on a movie set for a birth defect that he had that was never detected...

I guess I am asking with the regular stuff most of us do (and its really never 100%) plausible is it that a birth defect like that of something to cause sudden death can be detected? You read about so sudden death in common people or people who use gear on a daily basis - I wonder do u think had they gotten some blood work, done a ECG, ect they might of lived?

Don't know...but 29 and healthy...why would he get an Electro Cardiogram, blood test, or wear a Holter monitor?

Well one thing that is obvious with gear is it makes you're muscles bigger and I don't think the heart is an exception. To bad it is a muscle that we don't want getting bigger or thicker.

I think like bbf said about the processed foods in terms of John Ritter. I really hated to hear about him dying at 54, he was an icon. If you remember he was pretty heavy and you know he never did any cardio with a schedule that he had. I think some people have a predisposition to things, be it cancer or heart disease. The reason guys our age(20-50ish?) dont normally get all those tests run is because it is very very rare to die suddenly like that, I have heard of people dying like that but never knew anyone personally. If you think about all the people you know, and think of the ones that chain smoke and drink too much and stay up to late and do other drugs like coke, crank etc... and then think how few if any that we know personally that actually die suddenly and that puts it in perspective . With that being said, there is always a chance that you or I have a heart defect similar to John Ritter that could be fatal with the use of gear. I think the chance is extremely rare however.

I've always heard that in moderate doses Test can deter heart disease, but you can abuse any of it to the point that it is detrimental to your health.
