tried to sleep in - made it to 8:30am. Got a good nights sleep, tho - so felt really good today. Went to Home Depot to buy paint + supplies to paint the new house. Practiced posing in between cooking 2 large packs of chicken breasts. lol I put the mirror next to the stove. :D Helped my neighbor (the guy we bought the house from) move his heavy stuff out. He kept saying "damn, your strong". lolol He had this big, antique, roll top desk. It was heavy. Jeff and I got it moved into the van for him, along with his washer, dryer, grill, antique dresser, king bed....oi.

Neighbor wasn't much help. He's a size 5X - but not in a good way. I was afraid he was going to have a heart attack, he was breathing so hard. I told him to sit down out of the way somewhere and rest. I didn't want him dropping dead before escrow closed.

LMAO...this just cracked me up. He's probably still salivating at the fact you helped him move his stuff.

How are you coming w/ comfort w/ the posing & your routine (both the 60 sec & the 90 sec)?

better. now that I have an actual house to move around in, I can really concentrate on getting the timing down. (lots of space to move around, + mirrors!) that's my goal this week - and then I promise to post a video on the weekend along with progress pics.

Probably the best thing I can tell you is just to remember to count to 3 on each pose during either mandatories and all the posing routines -- that helps so much w/ pacing yourself - you'd be amazed at how easy it is to blow thru the moves when u finally get on stage after all these weeks of prep....

that's what I've been doing - you told me that at the very beginning and it's something I've stuck with.

ok. we need to discuss options for my bunged up bowels. I've been taking some herbal pills that help me go, but it's kind of inconsistent. Right now, It takes me about 4 days to go to the bathroom (even with these pills) - and I really go. then it takes another 4 days or so to go again. I was hoping all the water would help, but so far it's about the same.

Any help on this would be appreciated. Sorry for the poo talk. :D
Have you tried Senna tea at night? They sell some called "smooth move" at the grocery. It works for me. I'm continually constipated. I'm not taking it now because of the baby, but it does keep one regular.

Okay, there's an herb that gives consistent results, casgara sagrada, but it's literally a natural laxative, it will blow your pipes out and you can become dependent on it.

Plain psyllium husk should do it, like in Metamucil -- but there is totally plain psyllium in the health food stores that has no other additives, no flavorings or sweeteners -- if you add it consistently (you can consume it every day and won't become dependent). It's not digestible so I don't think it would affect your macros.

I do have some of that tea. lol I also just ordered some in capsule form from bb.com - so things should get better for me soon. Hopefully.

Also - I'm going to start eating more brocolli with other meals. Not only will it help me go, but it will make me feel more full, too.

By the way, that picture of you from the back posing was FAB. I'm soooo jealous...lol.

I used to have this issue but sambel always takes care of that!!!! I'm not sure exactly what you can have right now but I found this recipe below to make your own. You can leave out the oil or what not if you can't have that and substitute what you can. It works every time for me and SBT. You can find a jar of it in the Asian section at your local grocery store.. 0 cals, 0 carbs, 0 fat, 0 protein. I can't find nutrition facts on sodium and sugars levels.

Sambal Oelek (Hot Chile and Lime Condiment)

This basic, hot sambal, which has been called the "mother" of all sambals, is also spelled olek or ulek. Since "olek" means hot peppers, I’ll go with that spelling. This sambal goes well with meats and poultry as well as being a perfect condiment to just add heat to your meal. It can also be used as a base for creating other sambals or as a substitute for fresh chile peppers in recipes.

1 cup dried red chiles, such as piquins or cayennes, stems removed

6 cloves garlic

3 tablespoons lime juice, fresh preferred

1 tablespoon vegetable oil, peanut preferred

Place the chiles in a bowl, cover them with hot water and let them sit for 15 minutes until softened. Remove the chiles, drain and discard the water.

Combine all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and puree until smooth. Thin the sambal with more lime juice if desired.

Yield: 1/3 to ½ cup

Heat Scale: Extremely hot

...and how are you taking it? Are you using it as a condiment (with a chicken/broccoli meal) or are you just downing a tbsp?

it actually sounds pretty tasty. :D would be a welcome kick to my regular chicken/broccoli...

I use pam spray the pan, heat it up throw my fresh/raw chicken in cook it up till it kinda blackens a bit throw some of that on top (about 1 or 2T) on top stir it up and yeah... Eat it. YUMMY!!! I noticed it loses some of the affect if you cook it with the chicken over just putting it on top of the cooked chicken. But eat it straight for 2 meals. It's definitley some hot stuff. To much will give you stomach cramps but will definitley get the bowels moving. You have to put enough on it so that you are sweating and drinking water. That's when I know it's going to kick me in the arse later LOL

Be aware - if you have stomach ulcers or acid reflux - it will greatly affect the condition

I'll post pics at the end of the week. I've got a full plate right now - have to get the house painted so I can move into it.

---------------------

I'm having a rough day today. Woke up this morning to a disgruntled SO. For some unknown reason, he's started snoring lately. LOUDLY. lol This means I'm not getting any sleep if I have to stay in the same bed with him, so about 1 am (when I can't take it anymore) I creep out of bed and sleep in the other bed.

Apparently, he doesn't like this and went off on me first thing this morning before I even had my eyes open. that escalated into other things, as arguments usually do. It wasn't pretty.

I think he's feeling neglected - and we can all probably see why. I'm tired all the time and am living/breathing this competition. We discussed it before the whole thing started - about how hard this was going to be on both of us. Up until now, he's been wonderful - but he tends to let things boil up inside him without showing it on the outside. then BOOM. He freaks out. :worried:

Just so you all know - this much cardio/training has it's effect one ones sex life. lolol I fall asleep as soon as I hit the pillow, and am up first thing to go back to the gym. oi.

Anyway - I feel bad, because he's been so good about the whole thing. I'm also a little mad because he really freaked out because I'm not in bed when he wakes up. What am I supposed to do? Stay in bed with him and suffer through the snoring all night? In 2-3 days, I'll be the one freaking out in the morning over lack of sleep. I tried to explain that it's nothing personal - I just need sleep really badly...

I don't know why the snoring started. He doesn't have a cold. He's not congested in any way. He is adding muscle and getting bigger - I don't know if any of that would have an effect or not. ?????

there were some hurtful things said to me this morning that I am confused about:

1. (finger pointing in my direction while talking in a loud voice) "I was this close to asking you to marry me." wtf?? what does that mean? I mulled this over on the stairmill this morning, and still can't figure it out. lolol I'd be with jeff regardless of if we ever got married or not - so it's not like I've been pining away - waiting for a proposal. We've been together 6 years. Whatever it means, it's distrubing.

2. (finger pointed at me again) "Tell me what exactly you think you bring to this relationship." I don't know how to answer that one, either. I can think of all kinds of things, and I can't think of anything - all at the same time. lol Does he mean financially? what?

...and the worst:

3. "When I get home tonight, you'd better have all your stuff packed...and I mean just your stuff." wow. first, he's throwing me out, then he's accusing me in advance for taking stuff that doesn't belong to me. if it weren't so horrible, it would be funny. later in the discussion, he recanted on this - telling me he didn't mean it. it still hurts, tho. I don't like threats - and this is the first time in our history he has EVER said something like this.

Jeff is a wonderful, wonderful man. I consider myself very lucky to have found him - so don't get the wrong idea based on what I've told you. He's thoughtful, kind, caring, etc. We have a lot in common, and spend A LOT of time together. (<---that could be the problem right there. lolol) He's my best friend, and I'm his. This is just so out of character for him that I'm at a loss.

I think I've been so preoccupied with this competition that I haven't been paying him as much attention as I usually do. ?? right? Someone read into this for me and make me feel better.

You all know I rarely talk about my personal life here, but dammit! I don't have anyone else to talk to, so you'll have to suffer through my whining.

Sally...Im going to pm you my cell number......

call me if you wanna talk from the perspective of a trainer

I guess I've been "lucky" enough to be single while competing -- I did lose one bf over my first show which impacted the post-show crash later as well. But I suppose reheating some tilapia in his microwave would set me off too -- the smell doesnt' go away so quickly...

HOWEVER --- as you've already discussed the implications of this commitment, you should also be in a position to fairly say "ok let's talk about this" -- Just like lots of us come on EF to air our frustrations, maybe he needs an ear to hear his frustrations as well. And often just the outlet helps alot to deal w/ it. I'm not sure you can actually do anythign to change it as far as your training schedule & how exhausting the whole thing is. One upside is that w/ the cycling, what could've been a freaking brutal contest prep actually is a lot less rough w/ the recovery-ability of the AAS. But I'm sure "It could've been a lot worse there buddy..." isn't really a good response to his frustrations....

OK back to the topic --- just talk about it --- its fair to listen to his issues & frustrations and just talk. Are there very specific things that are diriving him nuts? Is it just the whole thing in general? Does he perceive you as spendign too much time flexing in the mirror (;) ... smartass comment... just kidding..) or whatever? Let's also not forget that you both have been under bigtime pressure from moving and all that goes into that. Maybe his frustrations have nothign to do speicfically w/ your competition and just w/ the current pile of stuff you both are doing. Or maybe he just wants some attention? Its fair. He didn't choose to do the show - you did. Even if you discussed it & agreed to it - he has to ride on the side & live w/ it while you are directly focused.

I'd just say - talk about it- find out where its all comign from - it doesn't need to be accusatory or anythign - but there's always somethign underlying when people start spouting off. Hell, if he's cycling , is he doign his PCT correctly or running an aggressive tren cycle or something? I was mega moody this weekend -- no idea what really caused it but it was very much like "hormone day" -- came up from no where and I was literally wondering who could take care of my cat for me so I could just not be here. I'm not suicidal or anythign - but something was eating me or whatever - its completely passed as of yesterday afternoon -- but it did exist and its impact was pretty tangible to me & probably the people around me from Fri nite around 10 pm until yesterday afternoon.

Anyway -- just talk. If it means you give him some quality time or I dunno - share a jacuzzi together or whatever -- but hear him out instead of waiting for the weird moments of unexplianed snapping. There's your perception & then there's his and lots of emotions are involved in a relationship as close as you two are --- just talk.

Hope that helps & good luck!

And shit, 5 weeks away right? Walk in the park. Get more flimsy outfits for a "private" photoshoot or something the next day after the show or something that he can "look forwad to" as well, i.e. so he has a focus & can share more in the whole experience.

BTW -- startign at around 4-5 weeks is when the show gets a lot more real and a new sort of stress can start up as well because you've been operating in this weird state of existence for so long and all of a sudden there's no more wiggle room but also it is much more real.

BTW -- trip to San Diego? Helloooo... go set up an awesome nite out on the town or lounging around on the beach or something.

Totally agree with Sassy!!!!

I can't imagine having someone like that close all of a sudden flip especially this close to competition. I mean I'm sure your emotions are at an all time high (I know mine were), and then not getting sleep (I'm sure the snoring was aggravating as heck). Your doing good holding yourself together and not letting stuff swing way out of proportion. I'm sure if he would catch you at the wrong time he would have gotten the b*tch out from you... It's hard to think clearly about where this is stemming from with a clear mind, but with a dieted down state of cloudy mind you are in... you did the right thing by asking other's for input. I decided to make no judgement calls the last 4 weeks because your brain is handicapped!
Sounds to me like he's under a lot of stress. He more then likely does not mean what he said he just seems like he is feeling neglected with your training, and stressed with the move, etc.. etc.. Like Sassy said go out and buy some lingerie and plan for post show partying!!! I know it's hard to think of going to the store and buying this stuff when all you want to do is sleep, or at least just to sit down.
Only 3 weeks left everything will pan out just fine just keep the pieces together and tell him ,"Baby it's only 3 more weeks please bare with me I need you to do this for me right now." Promise him he'll get his cake and the cherry on top (no pun intended LOL) if he can just stand by you.

previously, he was carrying around a lot of "i got mega burned by my ex-wife" baggage - and has been very guarded about his feelings, up until about a year ago. (she really did do a number on him - it was bad.) we hit a relationship wall about 1.5 years ago - it was a struggle. there was only so far I could get with him emotionally. Somehow, things eased up and we really connected again - like when we first met. It's been wonderful since then, and recently he's started opening up even more. Doing sweet things for me and being very affectionate.

It's the first time he's opened up like this (I'm talking about in a good way - our relationship), and I think he feels vulnerable. the slightest change it what I do or how we interract together has a big impact on him lately. I don't want to lose all this new (for lack of a better phrase) "wonderfulness" lol that we've discovered. I really do not want the old "guarded" jeff back. I've been chipping away at that armour for years! gawdam, I'm patient. :D I love him, tho - and he's worth it.

So - the freaking out this morning caused me to freak out and we just wound up yelling at each other. not good. But rather than storming out, we settled down a little and really talked. a little. I know we'll discuss this tonight - so I'm trying to figure out if any of the things he said really mean anything, or if he was just lashing out irrationally. I did tell him this morning that I didn't like being threatened - "...please don't say things like that if you don't mean them, because it messes with my head and my heart." I believe that's what I said word for word.

I have to go paint now. I'll catch up with this in a few hours.

thanks, Sass.

Life is weird enough as it is, then throw in a competition and it gets even weirder like in ways you never thought possible. Like they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Its true - but its quite a journey to get there...

Sounds like you're on the right track though.

Aww Shorty relationship around competition time very hard. ((((HUGS)))) Everything you have ever said about Jeff seems to be reasonable guy I am sure you guys can talk it out for sure. Often very heated things are said when fighting it is hard so don't take he words to heart to much I am sure it was said in the moment only. As for the sleeping thing he could try those nose strips things and you could try ear plugs.

My hubby is a snorer ... I've learned to sleep with earplugs but sometimes he gets on a roll and even my 39 Db earplugs don't do it so I've bailed out of bed. However, I'm lucky, mine just gets guilt ridden because he knows that sleeping on the futon tears my neck and back up. One thing to keep in mind, if Jeff's snoring, he might not sleeping as well, himself. It's common for people who snore to have apnea and if he has apnea, he's sleep deprived. That will make people nuts. As to why he started snoring, if he's using any "supplements" that could affect his sleep patterns. Even building up muscle or increased throat size (or even vocal cord size) could affect this stuff. How to get him off your back about leaving the bed? Well, you could get a tape recorder and tape him snoring ... then you play it back for him, making sure it's about as loud as you hear it. You could try the passive aggressve approach, which is elbow/nudge/jiggle/call name or otherwise WAKE the snorer up in mid snore. Tell them "Honey, you were snoring and you woke me up, so I wanted to share." If their snoring keeps THEM awake, too, they will eventually get over your leaving the bed and in fact will be happy to have the uninterrupted rest.

Okay, my armchair psychiatrist take on men ... when you start chipping away at their walls the good stuff comes to the surface, but all sorts of other bottled up garbage comes out, too. Those things he said to you ... sounds like it might be a bit of transferrence. I'll lay you odds at least some of those feelings are things he's haunted by from previous relationship(s). Combine that with the fact that your body is changing, and he's even said it himself, you look terrific, it can be very threatening, plus you just bought another house, all that stuff is stress (combined with the competition prep).

Sounds like he's feeling very threatened and when men feel threatened they lash out. Then they cool off and realize what they did, and they usually feel stupid. They would love to take it all back and fix it, but their egos make it tough to apologize, plus they're afraid you're going to hollar at them (and this time they know you'll be completely justified), and then they feel even more threatened because now they're afraid that you'll be so pissed at them that you really may leave because they realize they're being unreasonable jackasses. Sometimes in this situation they sort of go for broke and start saying LOTS of pissed off, stupid things. Logical thought has completely gone out the window by this time. They're just scared and angry and frustrated, as much with themselves as with you.

'Course I could always be wrong, I don't even know the guy ... just going by personal experience.

Okay, I've been with my husband 13 years now, he STILL expects me to do some of the same shit his ex wives did when I'm pissed. I'm not at all like them, and I've NEVER done any of those things, but he still, in the back of his mind, expects it, and it churns up some very old fears for him.

IMO, whenever you get into an argument with your s/o he's not just fighting with you, he's fighting with every other woman he's ever been involved with.

Shorty, I hope everything works out. And I can totally understand how you feel. I've also been with my huney for 6 years and he too was (is) for me competing ( I think he likes to brag that he lives with a fitness model LMAO) anyway but whenever it's time to get down to it and the really hard part comes like the last 8 weeks, he starts feeling neglected and spits out the you have no time for me comments. While I love him to death, I'd like to kick him in his ass at times.

I know I didn't offer any advice, just wanted you to know you aren't alone.

Hey Short One,

Stress makes us say nasty things sometimes. The "I was going to ask you to marry me" part seems like a plea for attention, to me. I think that means "I am really in love with you, and am feeling neglected." Maybe I'm a pollyanna, but I think this will pass. Just try to make a little time for him and it will most likely cool down the tensions a bit.

Dan used to snore, VERY LOUDLY. I wore the earplugs made for nighttime. They are in little jars in the drugstore. I could even hear him through those sometimes, though, and it was so frustrating!! It drove me crazy. I would try to get to sleep before him so that I could sleep through it. That was the only thing that helped. He was too selfish to bother putting on the nose strips. Your guys sounds lots better, though. maybe ask him to wear them?

I have to read your post....I glanced and worried...
I know it sounds ridiculous to worry for you, BUT....I do...
I understand all the things said ^^, yet I think if you begin a conversation with him "acknowledging" your part, and giving him a hug he will let his armour down, and then you may begin a new phase of your relationship!!!
I read this (below)the other day and think if we all used it...we would save ugly moments in our lives!!!

2. Anyone can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not easy. Aristotle

My best to you both!!!

I don't have any advice cuz MM & Sassy seem to have covered it so well.....but HUGE HUGS for ya girl!! I'm so sorry for the argument & hope it all works out for the best.....

Oh and I use the nose strips a lot & they really do work for stuffy noses (if that's what's causing the snoring)

:qt: My dear sir, I will be 42 my next birthday, which takes place in less than two weeks.

I have been married or living with a man in a committed relationship continually since I was 18. It stands to reason I would have picked up a little insight in nearly 24 years, I pay attention ... although I will admit, it's easier to learn about something when you enjoy the subject of your study

I have these moments where I go "Ooooo, I know this!" and it's like the answer is right there, it's like I channel it or something ... and then other times I just stare blankly and drool.

I really think the key to making a relationship last (or one of them, anyway) is figuring out HOW your man communicates. Jeff is like most men - emotionally closed off 90% of the time and very bad at expressing his feelings verbally. So, I've learned to 'read' him in other ways. It's like learning a new language. I constanly have to interperate his actions and his words without getting all pissy myself. I am the calm, thoughtful one in the relationship. lolol

LOL! I thought about recording his snoring last night. I sat up in bed about midnight thinking I could get my phone and record his snoring with the "record message" feature. :D Instead, I went to sleep in the other bed. Jeff had made it up for me with new sheets and blankets for me. lolololol

I want to hug you all. thank you so much for your thoughts and words. It feels so wonderful to have this much support. :friends:

Shadow also suggested ear plugs, so I think I'll get some today. We'ver both stuffed onto a queen bed right now until I can get the new bedroom finished. (should be done painting it today!) then we can stretch out in our King - and that might help some.

Good back workout. One of my favorites. SORE where my glutes meet my hammys - from the lunges and eliptical on Monday.

I went to another gym to do cardio - my regular gym doesn't have a stepmill. I wasn't impressed with this new gym. Old cardio equipment, and not an eliptical on the place. wtf?? good thing I didn't need to use one. lolol They have great tanning beds, tho. A standup, and all new beds. I'm going back to buy a package for the month.

Here's something that makes no sense:

We have one tanning bed at my gym, and I've been after then to change the bulbs. They finally do, and then set the max time down to 15 minutes. wtf?? I complained. lolol they said that when they get new bulbs, it's mandatory to drop the time down to 15 until the bulbs get 'broken in'. duh. I asked who mandated this, because I've tanned in a lot of places with new bulbs and they've never dropped 5 minutes to 'break the bulbs in'.

I got no answer to this. Just a blank stare.

So. I donated the last 6 tans I had to Jeff and am buying a package elsewhere. It wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't have this competition coming up. (which I explained) I told them I didn't really want to pay them more to get the same amount of time I should be getting in the first place.

-----

...and as you've read, my realtionship issues are working themselves out. I was kinda freaked out there for a while. I prefer a "drama free" relationship, but know that sometimes it can't be avoided. Thank you all again for your help.

yeah.....they "are" supposed to drop max time with certain bulbs as they have more "output" when they are new as opposed to used.

Still though.....

first time I've ever heard of it. they have no timer on the bed - but I could tell they'd dropped the time, because I wasn't getting the color I usually get. When they first changed the bulbs, they didn't drop the time - so I got a couple of good tans in. that's why I noticed the difference...

My place did this to decrease tan time by 20% I think is what they say when the bulbs are new but my packages were by the minute or unlimeted for a month etc so it had no real effect. If your paying per session then they should at least comp you one extra tan if they are going to do that.

The Shadow said:

OMG, yes :worried:

I've never tanned (well, other than natural) but I typed an insurance report more than ten years ago that will stick with me forever. The gist, this woman used a tanning bed and was the first person after they changed the bulbs, she went on for her usual amount of time and ended up with up with severe burns over her entire body and was scarred for life, she nearly died.

I bought a month unlimited at the other gym with the new beds. they have high output/15 minute beds with a face tanner. I used one today and wow. BIG difference between the 15 minutes at my gym.

Plus, they were having a 30% off on their packages! I got a month for $40, which is cheaper than the 15 sessions I bought at my gym.

Glad to hear things with Jeff worked out..... Happy that you're a happy wimmin again....

And yes, I've heard of dropping the time with new bulbs.....

I was just catching up, so I am late on this ...... But as for the snoring - earplugs really are great. Get the squishy ones that you mash together, put in and then they expand to really FIT in your ear. They are awesome. I wish I could wear them (can't because I then wouldn't hear the baby if she woke up).

Glad things are worked out though.

I used to run a tanning salon for six years, there is no legal rule about dropping time for new bulbs, a good tanning salon changes bulbs before they should be without warning at all, some gyms just want to add on a upgrade charge for tanning they don't plan on tanning you at all!

ok. My weight is still holding at 141.5 . I had Andy do the 7 site again last night. Here are the numbers.

chest = 2

thigh = 9

suprailiac = 4
midaxillary = 4

numbers calculate out to:

BF% = 5.44
Pounds of BF = 7.70
Pounds of Lean Weight = 133.8

Is this right? It doesn't seem right. lolol that seems really low. Holy :cow:

That seems pretty crazy lean esp if you haven't even touched the water depletion yet. You still looked smooth in the last picture you showed (smooth - not water depleted, not smooth bloaty...)

I dont' agree w/ 5%... I can see striations in my delts now (I'm no where near 5%...) -- tends to be the first stuff that shows up. (not pulling the air out of your above statement - it is awesome when you can see the ripples....!)

In the first of your rear dbl bi poses - I'd probably suggest you pull your arms (elbows) forward a bit so it doesn't fold up the center of your back so much -- lets you pull out more width. The next one is better, but I'd still pull the elbows a little more forward.

Love the 1 leg back on the rear poses, and you know I love the side shots!

I don't agree with 5% either. I was thinking more like 9%.

backdb - yeah - that's why I took 2 of them. I had my back scrunched together. I'll pull the elbows forward more.

I have a question on the thigh/ab pose.

My abs show up nicely when I'm not doing anything (see avi lololol) - when I try to tighten them for this pose, they vanish.

Abs are off the chain! Abs & thighs pose is a bitch. If you put your arms behind your neck, hook your thumbs and pull your elbows back so it pulls your front & shoulders up & out. Make sure you are standing upright and not hunching over. Blow out ALL the air in your diaphragm -- think like if you've ever done Arnold "vaccuums" abs exercise. You're contracting your abs "internally" but not actually hunchign your body over. And continue pulling back on your elbow to keep your torso stretched out.

Ask anyone at my last show - you could here me blowing the air out like a leaky tire. Basically I blew thru clenched teeth - LOL not sure if it was to try to minimize the "blow face" or what, but you often hear people on stage doign that to blow out all the air during the ab contraction. Then you should see the abs stand out.

WHOA......

BIG DIFFERENCES.

As Sassy stated the back double bi and front double bis should have the lats flared out...you flare them - them squeeze the shoulder blades together for the inner back detail.

You look about 8%......and yes...age isusually used on BF calculations.

The ass will be the last place to lose from.

Start using YES or similar, either before the workout or tanning, on the glutes and back of the upper thighs.

Also - increase the L-dex by 0.25 mg starting tomorrow

I just took that ab pic because you can't see them in my pics. I don't know if it's the light, or possibly my cheap camera. both.

I'll have Jeff take pics this weekend. He has an expensive pro camera that I'm afraid to touch for fear of breaking it. lolol When he takes pics, everything shows up and we can get a better gauge of what I look like.

thanks for the advice on the ab pose. I'll practice today.

I know they use age as a factor, but why do they use it? Does it have something to do with viceral fat stores - more of it in older people?

ok. after reading Tre's post about the hot stuff and my bowels (lol) I looked in my fridge and BAM. I had Thai Chili Sauce in that sucker. Extremely close in ingredients, so I gave it a try. Worked like a charm after both meals, and tasted awesome. The brocolli is helping, too. I'm regular again!!!

My hammysglutes are SORE. I'm trying to think back to when they weren't sore and can't remember. :D

I napped for about an hour at 4. I'm not a good napper. If I hit the pillow, I need to stay there for the rest of the night. Some people can nap for 20 minutes and feel refreshed. Not me.

As usual, tho. When I got to the gym, I felt much better. My gym has magical, powers. ;)

Another thing you might want to try is some side / ab poses -- lots of ways you can do them - could transition out of a side chest, pull your leading arm (the front one) over your face, over your head, leave it behind your head, make sure you are still standing very upright (not hunched over) and do the same thing w/ the 'vacuum' on your obliques, keep your leg in the side chest pose.

You can also transition out of the std abs & thighs to a left & right oblique pose as well -- these are things you can do when they call out the mandatories instead of just stnading there grunting in the std abs & thighs -- do the required pose, make sure you hold it for a good 3-5 seconds and then you can do a quick transition out into an oblique pose -- just somethign to play w/. The more little transitions you have in your arsenal (once you've completed the std pose), the more you have that allows you to show off your assets as well as draw the audience attention because everyone else will be holding the one pose for several seconds, and you have some movement.

But all these w/ the caveat that they may also call out the mandtories quickly - some people who go for the big dramatic set up say for a side chest or something before they actually hit the pose may be running a little behind the pace the judges go at.

Soon, I'd suggest you have Jeff or someone at your gym call out your mandatories just as if you were on stage so you are used to it.

e.g.

OK ladies - women's middle weights to the stage
*everyone files out & lines up -- -make sure you have your own "space" and you aren't crowded to the side by anyone. Also see if you can sort of check where the lighting is good & grab that spot. You migth also have Jeff, at the morning show, or if he can see the stage and then come back -- give you an idea of where the lighting is the best & the worst so when you do your 60 sec & 90 sec routines you set youself in the best lighting. Come out, face front, set yourself in a tight relaxed stance, look at the judges ... make eye contact ...but don't stare at them... smile up to the audience and stand ready. *

Front Double Bicep
*bam! hit it, chin up, head up, smile!*

... and Relax.
* return back to tight relaxed stance -- note that if you make like you are grabbing the floor w/ your toes you can get some great flexing goign in your quads -- make sure you expose that sort of stuff during the relaxed pose but not actually look like you are holding a pose*

Front Lat Spread (they may or may not call this)
* hit it, face up, chin up, smile*

.. and Relax
* back to front relaxed pose *

Side Chest, your favorite side
*nice transition to the side, hit your pose, bring it around and show the whole row of judges & audience -- rotate from the waist, make eye contact w/ the judges & smile so your look is saying 'Yep, this is what you came here for - check out my shit!"

.. and Relax.
*return to front relaxed pose*

Side Tricep, your favorite side
* again, nice transition to the side, hit your pose bring it around for everyone to see those delt striations. Side tri you can rotate both from your waist as well as your shoulder rolling front to back if you want - try it & see how it looks - again you want to give every judge a full front view of what you brought, smile & look like you own the stage*

... and Relax.
*return to front relaxed pose, head up, chin up, smile. You'll probably be sweating right now. Its tough holding those poses so don't forget to breathe, but also make sure your torso is long and lean all the time, abs tight, side shots sit down on your bent leg to get the hammies to pop.*

OK Ladies, turn to the rear, Back Double Bicep
*Nice transition to the rear , don't just turn around -- but nice smooth transition -- you are in control & not hurried, set your rear leg, make sure to sit down on it again to get the most out of the hammy, bam! hit that pose, head up --- remember just cuz you're facing away from the audience doens't mean you need to look down -- elbows forward a little -- here since you aren't facing the audience you can strain it a little ;) *

... and Relax.
* Return to a front relaxed stance. They may tell you that you can stay facing rear - sometimes its confusing to know what to anticipate between poses -- but just listen, and don't freak out if you turn around & they say not to -- just stay relaxed and don't rush anything. Use your relaxed poses to let your muscles relax if they are startign to cramp up or to catch your breath. *

Rear Lat Spread
* set your back leg, pull out those lats! Head up, chin up, they're still watching you! *

... and Relax.
* Return to front relaxed pose - nothing more to be done facing the back of the stage. You're almost done w/ mandatories! *

Abs & Thighs
* If you have it right now, just do it the way you know it works. When you are evacuating your diaphragm remember to keep smiling so you don't make grunt face or blow face. Keep your head up, stretch your torso so the abs are all exposed, stand tall, keep blowing out everything you have but not really fast so you have no air left to work w/ while you hold it. This is also a great time to do the quad shake if you have the meat for it -- loose wiggle, BAM! Lock out and hit the abs. And you know when the abs are there - you look up & smile like "Eat that buddy!" Here you can also do a little oblique squeeze too if you want -- work on that if you've figured out a good way to do a little transition into these --- I just can't think of a good example right now... You can also switch legs if you want and hit the lock & abs again *

.... and Relax.
* this pose is particularly tapping because you just blew out all your air, so don't pass out or anything and try to not start huffing when you hit the relaxed pose again*

And thank you ladies.
* I'd suggest acknowledging the judges w/a little 'tip o' the hat' sort of gesture, could smile and wave as you go off stage -- turn and head off stage, don't forget to keep walking w/ tight abs, shoulders back, head up ... Make sure you are heading to the correct side of the stage - sometimes you return from where you came on stage, sometimes you exit to the other side of the stage. There will usually be a backstage expeditor who will help direct you - so if you don't catch what the announcer said -- you can probably look to the sides and see if anyone is directing traffic on the edge of the stage.*

Pace yourself, make sure you hold the poses tight for at least 3 seconds but listen to get a feel for how fast the calls are made. Look or listen for your fans in the crowd -- makes you smile a lot easier while you are up there about ready to start freakign out. Anything to kill the tension and just remember that those people paid to see you show your shit -- so SHOW EM! Have fun. Its just strutting around in a skimpy bikini!

For the symmetry rounds - same thing w/ the walk out, line up in relaxed pose. Do your qtr turns, nice easy transitions, head up, chest out, smile, flex those muslces that are showing on each qtr turn. Try to keep the foot movements to a min - i.e. on each qtr turn, pick up your leading foot (usually all qtrs turned to the right) and rotate it around on the toe, set down at 90 degrees and follow w/the other - very smooth move. Keep the bouncing to a min- its just distracting.

Not sure how you've learned to do your side relaxed poses - arms to the side or front / back. As you turn, you can set your feet, do a little angled pose, meaning your right shoulder is angled a little face the audience sort of face on, then settle into a directly facing the side of the stage. Turn to the back, pull your shoulders up & out -- still relaxed but get the biggest lat you can out of a relaxed pose. Turn to the right again, this time I overrotate just a little bit so I can get my left shoulder angled a little towards the audience to get a little bit of a front/side view and then settle back into a directly side-facing stance. Then back to front. Smile. head up, chin up, chest out, SMILE! You're one step closer to that trophy!

Arms -- I hold my arms flexed some & have actually kept my hands in a bit of a fist - its a little guy-ish & military looking but it sets you tight & flexed. Or you can talk to the other girls or just see what they are doing w/ their hands. The fist lets you flex a little bit more. But generally I let the arms hang down from my shoulders and not try to hold a weird stance while this is supposed to be your 'relaxed' pose.

I can't think of anything else right now. I'd really start having someone do the full run thru the symmetry rounds and the mandatories. They might even set it up as if there were more than just you in the line and make you move around as if there were other girls maybe they wanted to get the line up more by height. So know your number when you get on stage because that's how they will call u to shuffle around in the line up as well as if there are enough people for call outs! Get comfortable w/ standing in front of people during your posing so you can relax enough to not feel self-conscious -- people love to watch this shit too when you are practicing. Get comfortable w/ yoruself out in front of people starign at you and also keep your mind focused on "you own the stage, you brought your shit so show it, and you are the one settign the pace and dominating the presentation". Don't get nervous and start speeding up. Count out at least 3 seconds per pose.

I'd also do the same 'real life simulation' for your 60 sec routine - cuz on stage you won't have a clock to watch your time and a mirror to watch yourself do your routine in front of. That can really screw you up if you are used to picturing the directions you turn and how you move as you see int he mirror - because on stage you are facing the audience w/ nothign to look at for yourself and probably no reference points to keep yourself centered or anything.

Watch out for wet spots (i.e. protan / oil) on stage. If it is sloppy up there by the time you get to do your 60 sec, you can request that one of the stage people wipe it up w/ a towel. You don't want to slip. Period.

:)

holy cow. I don't think I'll ever be able to repay you for all the awesome advice you've given me.

I'll post a full shot of the pic above in a sec - I gave you a closeup so you could see my abs better - but realized I'd cut off my legs. lolol

I took one for you. The light here is better than at the house - not so yellow. Shows my tan better. ;)

That's fuckin' awesome! All yours! I'd just see if you can get any more abs out of it - throw your chest up & out so you are also pulling from there and not just your shoulders. But you've completely mastered one of the hardest damn poses to do and you still are 3 weeks out! This is a fun one becaues you have abs and people just get a charge out of seeing a deep, defined 6-pack. Its SHOW OFF TIME!

Just another thought I had -- make sure your electrolytes are good on show day - you may start to cramp up while on stage - it can be very hard to hold a pose if you're startign to cramp (not common, but can happen) -- some advice I got was to keep a small bag of potato chips in your bag of stuff back stage - a little bit of salt will help you retain a little bit water to deal w/ the cramping. (But you won't bloat.)

mmmm. potato chips. lolol

Oh one other thing -- they will usually be calling each weight class , i.e. "Women's Middle Weights Back Stage" --- that means you get back stage - you may have to sit there a while as you wait for whoever is on stage (like the ten thousand figure girls or the slow old guys in the 50+, 60+, 70+ Masters classes or whatever -- just don't miss the call to be on stage. They will verify who is in the line before you file out but if someone is missing they will call your name on the PA and its sorta embarrassing (never happened to me :verygood: ). But if you actually miss your class, you are DQ'd. I know a guy who is a veteran of at least 20 yrs of top level amateur competition and he actually blew it at the Nationals in 2005. Completely dq'd. He relied on someone else who told him he had "plenty of time" before they called his class. Nope.....

that just sucks. lolol glad it never happened to you! ;)

this show only has 2 wimmins weight classes, and by the looks of previous years competitors - not many total competitors. I think there were 4 last year total. I'd rather there be more than less (like just me and someone else. :worried: or just me. lolol)

Naw - just don't psych yourself out. Have Shadow & Jeff bring cowbells or something so you have a mega cheering section. Makes you crack a big shit eating grin for the whole show!
