question on shadow's project (Diet)

I am going to now follow shadows training plan & diet. I wrote everything down word for word, and I hope it works for me.

Anyway, I have 2 questions- I saw on the diet he had posted for skittles, I want to follow and on meal # 3 I think- is a can of tuna, spinach leaves, 4 strawberries. Just want to know, I hate spinach. can I subsitute with iceberg lettuce or should I really choke down the spinach ?

My second question is: on meal # 5 is- 6 oz. chicken, potato, green beans
Is it ok, to subsitute a 1/2 cup rice for the potato ?

Thanks !

Maybe try romaine instead of the spinach -- iceberg is pretty useless as a nutrient source. Otherwise somethign like broccoli or cauliflower is good. A little different lookign salad though.

Rice -- if you use brown rice, it has roughly the same GI level as a sweet potatoe and in my experience has been interchangeable with a potatoe on a diet.

My thoughts:

1) I would choke down the spinach. It is more than just roughage. Iceburg is nutritionally void - it has basically no nutrients. Spinach is high in iron and other vits/mins, and I bet it is higher in fiber too. If you absolutely CANNOT take in spinach, I would eat romaine instead of iceburg.

2) While both rice and potatoes are starchy carbs, I think potato is better. It is less processed. If you go with rice, I think brown rice would be a better choice than white.

There are other lettuces you can buy instead of spinach or romaine. The darker green the better..... try Red Leaf Lettuce, Butter Lettuce, Arugula, Spring Mix, etc.....

If you want to make it a hot meal -- try kale, cooked spinach, chard, Dandelion greens, collard greens, etc....

That's good too -- I like to buy a mix of different dark green lettuces & mix them all together for a "salad."

At this point, there is very little food that I can't shove down the piehole if its on the diet. Right now (except for the cough drops yesterday), I'm STRICTLY eating exactly what I post. Excludign the water, tea, etc. And no soda for 8 days now! (Better yet, no nasty nutrasweet withdrawal!)

I did that when I first started the 'my pattern of eating' but I love the baby spinach now ... the fruits, (I use chicken) and dressing, all make it taste awesome :chomp:

I'm with ya - I LOVE baby spinach. I use it almost exclusively instead of lettuce.
