protein bars

i was wondering exactly how bad for you protein bars are. they clearly aren't considered particularly clean because i never seen them in anybodys diet. But should i do everything i can to avoid them? Sometimes i have to be at work for really long hours and its so easy to just bring a protein bar with me. Are there any in particular that are better than others? And is that business about "net carbs" where they subtract fiber and sugar alcohols from the carb total pure bs? thanks a lot

Ok, I havn't looked into this with depth, but what I do know is:

1. Protien bars are a very expensive way to get protien in your diet - buy whey and mix it in milk/water and you'll save time as well as money. Do a search on this to find out all the different/interesting/healthy and tastey food you can add.

2. One protien bar does not have enough good carbs and calories to substitute a meal.

3. I find them hard to eat.

That's about all.
