I'm SORRY for another stupid newbie post, just gimme a chance please! I'm trying to get the hang of this-

I've been hitting the weights hard but it looks like I've hit the food harder-

Gaining weight, I WAS getting nice strength gains, but it all seems to have gone down the crapper the last few weeks. Just stuck in one spot- Started lifting in April of this year

6'5" scaled in at 230lbs today :worried: I've always been a bit overweight, but it seems like in the last month or so I've bloated up-

I'm eating 3 protein shakes a day
Chicken or Steak
Seafood- Tuna Shrimp
Skim Milk
Pasta

No cokes or sugars
Occasional turkey sandwhich on the run

I'd guess 4-5 meals a day, 2-4 hour spacing- all protein oriented- I do eat out on occasion but I NEVER go overboard on it- I'd guess 150-200 grams of protein a day- 4000-5000 calories- Smoke a pack a day or so- Just trying to throw everything out and see if I can't figure out what is holding me back-

I don't have a flawless scheduled diet, but I do my best on the run.

Taking AMP02, Creatine, multi vit-

Working out 4 days a week, doing all upper body focusing on arms-shoulders-pecks

I'm just kinda stumped here, I'm doing everything the best I can and I feel like I'm digging myself into a hole

I agree. The legs need work.

I see 2 problems here that are at the top of the list:

1. Stop eating on the run.

You are not getting full value of your food, and are therefore starving your muscles.

2. You arent doing enough to get proper blood flow nor oxygen flow to your extremeties. Without that, forget size or strength.

-I am also assuming you get plenty of sleep.-

My suggestion, (other than eating slowly at a rest period), is twofold:

A. Incorporate either a clean and press into the mix.
or
B. Incorporate deep squats and standing overhead presses (2 seperate exercises).

Of course, these should be done before anything else on a workout day.

This is just my opinion, and because I do not know more info about how you train, or what your goals are, I cannot make better suggestions. I am sure other's have a different school of thought, so take my thoughts for what they are worth: $.02
:)

well, eating ont he run is ok as long as it is a high quality meal.

If you are eating "clean" you are probably not eating as many calories as you may think..try entering your foods into fitday for a typical day and see what you come up with..eating 5000 calories of clean food is an extremely difficult task unless you have an insatiable appetite..

poysyn,

No disrespect intended, but I still disagree.

My point about eating on the run is that when you do not eat slowly with enough time to properly chew and let the saliva have enough time to break down the food before it is swallowed, you can easily end up with 25% of the nutrition assimilating into the system. -And most of us only spend 1/2 or less of the time we should in this process.

In addition, when in a hurry, the digestive processes are severley impared. Blood flow is diverted from the stomach, liver, etc. and redirected by way of the nervous system to the muscles required to keep in a high energy state. This can even be brain and eyes. -And eyes can take 85% of the body's energy. Clearly, even THINKING fast burns up energy.

-But again, the value of my thoughts remains the same.

1) STOP SMOKING!!

2) Where are the veggies?? Fruits?? Healthy fats?? Fiber??
Water consumption?? I don't see any.....

honestly....smoking a pack a day and trying to live a healthy lifestyle is a complete contradiction! i smoked when i was younger and it completely kills your workout...your energy and endurance is compete sh!t compared to someone who doesnt smoke....you get lethargic....your strength levels decrease as you said ...you don't eat all your meals...it makes you more prone to eat crap...decreases bone density etc etc. QUIT!!! AND DO CARDIO....LIFT HARD....EAT RIGHT!!! NO EXCUSES JUST RESULTS!! YOU CAN DO IT...JUST GOTTA TRY!!! THERE IS NO MAGIC FORMULA OR SUPPLEMENT HONESTLY....JUST DEDICATION AND DISCIPLINE!

i also wouldn't be using any supps while your smoking...to me it's a waste of $$$ but that's my 2c. good luck bro...i hope you start some changes and see some progress!
