bobo?

probably start him on machines with light weight. common sense id say, yea? obviously he cant bulk the fuck up hes too prone too injury, yea? so start light, yea? make sense?

NO.

What part of "he can't raise his hands above his shoulders" didn't you understand?

He has NO FUNCTIONING right knee. He has pain just walking. Get it?

SO HOW WOULD YOU TRAIN HIM... EXACTLY?

He doesn't give a fuck about "competing" with you in the mirror. Dude has way too much going on to care.

So how would you approach training him and why should he hire you over the other trainers in YOUR gym? I hope you aren't "the best" they have to offer.

grump reminds me of my dad also.

dad is 58, vietnam war hero, his back is fucked up from being a carpenter 38 years. he just fucked up his shoulder and had to get surgery on it to re-attach the muscle.

he always did pushups, crunches, light bb rows, and stretching even though he is in the same shape grump is.

i would train grump like i would train my father.

i would start him out with tons of daily stretching/other ways to strengthen his muscles. eventually move on to basketball/swimming if its possible he can. or even cycling.

the only problem is if i had clients, i wouldn't let them quit pushing themselves until they achieved what they want to achieve.

if there is a will, theres a way

Iggy - though your answer was off you are THE ONLY ONE WHO EVEN CAME CLOSE.

I don't think you truly understand that my husband can't even walk on the treadmill for very long without his knee swelling up and causing him TREMENDOUS PAIN. Basketball is totally out then, wouldn't you say? Even if his knee wasn't screwed up, how could he shoot the ball when he can't raise either one of his arms above his head?

A good trainer would make it THEIR JOB to learn how to effectively address the limitations of every single client. Each client will have different limitations. A trainer should never EVER injure their client further, but my young brother, I see it every day in the gym... makes me want to scream. I feel badly for the people who are paying to get hurt. They want to accomplish a positive goal and are paying for it, but unfortunately like a doctor you never find out how bad one is until it is too late.

BM, i understand....
my dad is just like grump. his shoulder is so fucked up he cant lift it or sleep on it. he had to sleep for 4 months in a chair sitting up.

i'm only saying i would do all possible to find a way for him to burn excess calories and get his diet into track.

even if it meant only a sauna/steam room cold shower combo workout.

i would do all i could like a good personal trainer would

Tell your dad two things:

"thank you for your service"

and

"check out aquatics"

:D

He will get GREAT BENEFIT both strength and cardio with very little wear and tear on his joints. He doesn't even have to know how to swim. But tell him to make sure that he has a competent instructor. Too many of them are just aerobicschicks who haven't a clue how much more badly they are fucking their class participants up.

also, i would put grump on a wheel chair. make him shoot a womens ball underhand. if that was too much i would let him use the wheel chair to roll around faster and take him laser tagging.

i would find a way to do fun cardio with him.

LMAO at this thread you killed it bikinimom by having to be right, its your way or the highway. I can only imagine if someone would ever walk up to me and have me train them when he could barely walk on a motherfuckin treadmill. get out of here with that garbage

I would change his diet. He eats like shit. my dad lost 70lbs in 90 days and no exercise.

hahha. my dads not really the swimmer type.

fortunately his knee is still okay. he cycles for cardio.

he had to give a speech in front of the whole town on memorial day.

glad, i believe BM ain't trying to be harsh bro.

shes only trying to point out that some of your clients will need special needs. they are all different.

you gotta become a pro at what is best for them.
