newbie wants to start cardio

I have some bodyfat to lose (I am at 23%). I weight train 3 days.
I have been reading about cardio on several boards. I always hear something different. High intensity, low intensity, only 20 min, no go for 60 min. :(
I'm really confused. I also heard running is bad.
Can someone tell me the best cardio routine for losing fat while not burning too much muscle?
I'm gonna get up in the morning and do cardio (if I can decide on what I am supposed to do).

Spatterson, thanks for bumping that thread up. It seems that it is an ongoing debate whether to do short high intensity or long duration. I guess I'll just do both. However, I used to be a long distance runner and still looked fat. I'm trying to get my diet right and am so glad I found this site.
