To make a long story as short as possible, my gf and I quit smoking for New Years. It was a tough first couple weeks, but now we're both going on 7 mos. smoke free. In April we joined a gym, hoping to lose the quit smoking lbs. We got hooked up with a swole trainer, and have replaced a very bad addiction with a very good one. We're lifting 4x a week now. They give us "fitness assesments" every 8 weeks to monitor progress. I've lost 10 lbs of fat and gained 15 lbs of muscle in 12 weeks. Went from 18% bf to 13%, and improved everything else. GF improved a lot, esp. in strength, but I don't know her #'s. My squat went from nothing to 2x6 @285, hers is 2x12 @145. RDL's from nothing to 2x6 @ 265, hers is 1x12 @ 105 (and she's getting over a back injury!) Flat bench is by far our weakest lift. I'm 2x8 @145. Hers is 2x10 @75. Still, it's better than sitting our fat a$$es on the couch. I'm 25 yrs. old, 5'10, now @ 190-ish. I've lost 2.5'' in my waist, gained 2'' in my quads, 4'' in my chest, and 2'' in my biceps. My shirt sleeves have all gotten shorter and tighter!:) She's 22 years old, putting the muscle on, and is starting to burn the fat. Her efforts are definitely showing as well ;)

Our split:

Day 1: Chest & Tris, 1/2 hr. of intense cardio
Day 2: Quads & Front & Lat Delts
Day 3: Rest
Day 4: Back & Bi's, 1/2 hr. of intense cardio
Day 5: Hams, Calves, Traps, and Rear Delts
Day 6: Rest
Day 7: Rest, sometimes 1/2 hr. of cardio

Anyhow, here are my questions:

1) We're not really sore after a workout. I mean, we walk out of the gym sore, but after an hour or two we're both fine. The day after is when we both feel it the most---hurts to comb your hair, walk, etc. Forget about stairs! Is this pretty common, to recover like that after a workout, and then feel it 24 hrs later?

2) Do any of you get jittery, shakey, edgy, and just "not right" after more than 1 or 2 days away from the gym? After our 2 days off, we're crabby and jonesing to get back to the gym. Is this normal too?

I've learned a ton from reading the board here. Keep it up! This club is much better than Marlboro's, and the members here seem to last longer too!

The answer to 1) is...that is basically normal...most people will feel it the next day...especially with lifts like squats and deads which can tax your whole body...
#2...Yeah it's an addiction...Endorphins and all that i guess would explain it physically...but psychologically...i just feel fat if i don;t do any activity for more then 2 days...then again i am so maybei feel fat for a good reason...

welcome bro.
1) if i get sore it's usually about 48 hrs later. this is likely different for everybody.
2) I get pissed if I miss 1 day. so yeah it's normal

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on making such a healty choice and sticking with it.

I'm usually most sore about two days after training, and I definitely miss the weights if I don't get the hit them.
...chad...

1) absolutely. In fact, it's called DOMS - delayed onset muscle soreness. But remember you don't have to feel sore to have gotten a good workout.

2) Yep. But it's also good to take a week off every now and then.

Welcome to the board! Sounds like you guys have taken a HUGE step in the right direction.

1. If I lift heavy I am fine for about 24-30 hours then the soreness sets in. If I do high reps I am sore immediately but usually fine the next day.

2. welcome to being a meatheat. I get very irratible when I can't lift for a couple of days.

Cheers,
Scotsman

answer to #2...welcome, you are now in our world...and its a great place to be.

congrats on all the progress

Yeah those are common for most people. I'm sore for a few hours after, and usually need a nap. After that, I feel perfect again. I don't have doms (delayed onset muscle sorenss) anymore.
