Ok my two cents, Big WHitey is trying to give the kid some good advice. This Boy just by the law of size needs to be doing more. All of you telling him how great he is, is no help to him. It's one thing to give positive reinforcement it's another to blow smoke up someones ass.

I'm not sure how long cheescake has been lifting but he needs to do MASSIVE I MEAN MASSIVE AMOUNTS OFF GPP....HIS LEVEL IS WAY DOWN. You have to look at it form a good perspective, Bw 's girl came in here and benched 275 wearing a shirt for the first time weighing 132... We have a guy who is 132 wo benches 350....I agree with Whitey, get conditioned and then get strong.

I think we all need to take a step back here.

Good points are raised on both sides; however, I think whitey has a good point with the GPP, and it does look to me like cheesecake's physical condition is a little worse... granted he has gotten much stronger.

To me (yes these are MY concerns), being strong as crap, as well as in good physical condition, are priorities. Everyone needs to figure out what works for them.

But there is no need for personal attacks in the mean time.

I'll quote myself to answer this.

Yes, I realize that I am very weak. But I have also only been doing this for less than four months total now. It wasn't that I worked out for a few years and then decided to try powerlifting. No. This is it.

And here too.

I do realize that the vast majority of SHW are pulling a lot more than 600, but that's just a short term goal for me. I've not even been lifting for four months yet. I can't wait to see how big and how strong I will be after four years.

You mentioned that BW's girlfriend benched 275 in a shirt. Let me clarify. All of my lifts were done using a belt, knee wraps, and chalk only. I'm not sure I would have gotten 75lb out of a shirt the first time I used one, but some people get a lot more. Regardless, that's still a pretty weak bench.

But it won't be that way for long.

big whitey and mule........ i have nothing but respect and admiration for you guys. i bought your mm video to watch and learn from you.

but i think you guys are comparing apples to oranges.... big white and mule compare big whitey's gilfriend to cheescake. i bet she had been lifting for some time, probably with an athlete's background for some years and then came to MM to bench in a equipment.

were talking about a guy who hasnt played a sport in 10 years. decides hey, i like what my brother is doing, i'll take up powerlifting. along with his full schedule he does his best to increase g.p.p. he does sprints, truck pushes, pushups ect ect. he does what he can.

and for a beginner your advice should be get your coefficent up, it should be get your total up, then drop weight while increasing your g.p.p. and watch your coefficent sky rocket.

if you didnt then powerlifting would be mainly very small lifters becuase they were never told to gain weight, just increase their coefficent.

hell........ let the "kid" as you guys refer to him, have 1 year of training under his belt before you say that what he is doing is not working........ because so far it is.

yes as we have said his g.p.p should be better. but i just dont see how you guys can focus on his fat gain, and mule weighs in at over 420lbs.......... does that mean he should drop weight to get to the 308's or 275's???.... i mean that would boost up his coefficent??... and whitey i belive is in the 275ish class... should you drop to the 242's???

i have never known of anyone able to loose weight and gain large amounts of strength unless illegal issues are invovled,..... which will exlude cheescake, seeing as it would look right for the youth paster to be jucing..........

i agree with a lot of what you guys are saying, im just dont think your looking at the big picture........ please dont take this the wrong way as i greatly admire both of you.

X

A great improvement man...well done.

While I'm not as tall as you are, I notice that I was built almost exactly like you when I started lifting, about ten years ago.

The biggest mistake I made was not paying enough attention to my diet early on. Don't make the same mistake bro. If I had one suggestion, I'd tell you to do as least as much research into nutrition as you have put into lifting. It will make a HUGE difference.

amen brother. Nutrition is key.

I also believe that almost anyone will be happier with their progess over the long haul if they focus on gaining quality weight rather than simply gaining weight. I'm not saying you have to be a body builder or anything, but unless you are getting some serious substance help, it will next to impossible to gain a ton a weight in a short period of time without a very high percentage of that weight being body fat.

I find success with gaining a lot of weight, then leveling out for quite a while, while I grow into that weight and harden up. Then you can go back to the gaining phase. I weigh, almost to the pound the same thing I did 2 years ago (255), but I am much stronger and harder now than I was then. In the interim, I have been as high as 265 and as low as 238 or so (even cut weight to 225 once for a weigh-in during that time period).

nice pics. keep working hard. Ryan

Cheescake, this was not a personal attack I'm having a seminar on Nov. 22nd. If you can make your way up here get a karins denim and pay for your own room I won't charge you for the seminar...MULE...

No Offence that is the most retarded thing I ever heard...
If he gets his GPP up first he will be able to work out longer and harder in turn making him stronger.
He willl recover faster and his conditioning will be better...getting fatter will not make him stronger...

As for me son my body weight at bench america was 413...I weighed 385 when I squatted 1,000 off a baox My blood pressure is 120/70 and My resting pulse is 74 None of wich is too bad for a man my size.... Like I said No one is busting cheescakes ass I want to see him do well and stroking him is not gonna help.

Cheesecake - I'm not sure why you want to get up to 300 so soon. I would try concentrate on getting your lifts up. JMO, not an attack :). You don't need to gain more weight to get your strength up at your stage in training.

Cheesecake, I think you're on the right track. Gather what you can from these guys and use it to make yourself a better lifter. Mule and BigWhitey can offer some sound advice that will definately help you. To the others that have responded to benefit Cheesecake's efforts, I'm not ignoring you and praising Mule and BigWhitey, but these are two guys that I have met personally. I know from firsthand experience that they can help you. Keep asking questions and continue to learn like you have been. Ignore the so and so does this and so and so did that. Who gives a flip...there are hundreds of great lifters out there that can move some heavy damn weight. Focus on what you can do to become a better lifter. Force these guys to help you learn.

A few thoughts now;

Is your GF a member of the board?
Does she post her workouts and videos here?

If not

I don't give a flying ****. Noone else does either, except for you. for some reason you feel the need to put Cheesecake down and better yourself by bringing in an outside individual who in my estimation probably does not want to have anything to do with elite or she would have been posting already.

I respected you for your knowledge and insight to the iron game. After what you have just posted I have lost all respect for you. If you want to call someone names than YOU need to start posting workouts and videos of the same caliber.

If you want to see me in a video, you can buy it at www.elitefts.com Nazareth Barbell Best of the Meets: Volume 1.

I never called anyone a name, I said his level of conditioning was a disgrace. I'll give him all the props in the world for being dedicated, determined, all that good shit....

I won't coddle the idea of him ballooning up any further like its a great plan and I won't stroke him about his lifts. I won't say anyone has made great strides until they have, that would be the truely disrespectful thing.

I will provide him with any information he needs or wants, I will give my comments when asked. I will elaborate when questioned, I will explain myself and clarify whenever its warranted.

We don't do alot of hand holding and heavy petting where I train, if we did we would get nowhere. True gut level honesty, brotherhood, and big balls, those are the things that get us through our weak points and up to the next PR.
