New Deadlift PR!!! Woo-Hoo!!

As many of you may know I am not much of a deadlifter, and that is putting it kindly. My best conventional deadlift from the floor before last night was 385 lbs. Pathetic, I know.

However, I am determined to become a marginal to adequate deadlifter, and have been working very hard to get better, thus far with little to no success.

After doing lower and lower suspended GM's and practicing deadlifting off blocks and using bands, I managed a PR last night which was the first one I have had in the deadlift in some time.

I did conventional deadlifts, no suit and no belt while standing on 100 lb plates last night. I am not positive how high that puts you off the ground, but I am thinking about 3 inches or so.

Worked up doing singles, and managed to pull 405, narrowly missing 425. So I ended up pulling 20 lbs more off blocks than I had ever pulled from the floor. I thought this to be pretty significant, personally.

I would like to thank bigokie for some great suggestions which I will continue to implement. I know I will never be a great deadlifter, but if I can just become marginal, or even adequate, I will have a good chance of totalling Elite within the next year, which is a major goal of mine for 2003.

Anyone else hit any PR's lately? Post them here.

Great job Bmonster. Keep hitting that deadlift hard and you'll be where you want to be. How are you doing? Haven't talked to you in a while.

excellent!!!!

keep finding those exercises at which you are weak, and you will bring that dl up!

i also think the no belt idea is very good. i have changed my mind on this issue lately. billy mimnaugh, who is a 775 puller, has been telling me for ages to drop my belt.

keep up the good work!

Bro,

Awesome improvement.

Its a great lift, but what makes it excellent is your honesty about your poundages. Thats where you have mad respect.

Your probably not built to deadlift, but your bustin balls and that will get you there no matter what.

Congrats,
Nat Mike

Nice! Where do you normally fail with deads? Other than the T-rex arms, what do you think is holding it back from your other lifts?

For my PR I tried zerchers off the floor yesterday. It was my 4th exercise of the day and I still managd 225 which was way more than I expected. I was pleased.

BTW, good luck in your quest for Elite!

Thanks to all,

Screwball, I will call you tonight, OK? We need to talk about this weekend. Big fun in T-town, Sat.

Irish, the belt is gone for all pulling from now on. I am going to get better at pulling no matter what I have to do to get there.

Natural Mike, I am honest at all times re: my numbers. I have a terrible build for deadlifting and a very good build for benching and my numbers reflect this as well. Thanks for the compliments to all.

I am determined to get to a 500 pull by next year. If I do that, I am well on my way to my major goal for 2003!!!! I am going to try some strongman stuff we have at my gym to build up my core and low back as well as my conditioning.

Goals for a full meet sometime in 2003 is a 700 squat, 550 bench and 500 pull for a total of 1750 and Elite status at 220.

Night Fly will be catching you shortly though...:)

Congrats...

Hey Bench-good to hear from you. How was the StLouis trip?

Im a big fan of deadlifts off blocks. the start of of the DL isnt really a weakness for me, but I feel the extra pulling distance is of benefit. I was telling the gang this past weekend, that as shrt as I am(and you too for that matter), ifI pulled sumo I'd only have about 5inches to moveit!

We did speed deads with bands for DL-Im going to keep these in my routine!

Hey-you planning on getting rid of any of your old equip? If you decide to, Id like first shot at your reversehyper.

Il holler at you later in the week aboutnext weekend.

Later..

Does he suggest dropping it from ME day, or from everything except meets?

What the hell?!?

You bench about what I deadlift/squat , and I have benched over 400 raw (when healthy, not now-- I have a minor pec tear). We should hang out together like arnie and danny devito did in the movie "Twins". I'll hook up the poonanny!

"Yackity-yack, don't talk back!"

I've never liked belts, especially for deads. I figure I'm trying to work my back so why the hell would I want to put a support around it?

Well Congrats. It was good to train with you guys on Saturday. I hope to train again soon.

Well, now the bad news. The 1750 total is not elite. 1824 at 220. But the good news is you are close!!

By the way, are you sore from those pulls on Sat? My back is still hurting. For anyone who wants to know, we did speed pulls on a jumpstretch platform with blues. The only way to get the lift was to pull FAST!!! We only worked up to 315, and it wasn't good

Well the news just gets worse with each post. Please kill this thread before it takes 2000 to get to Elite.

Damn. Well that is way out of reach for the forseable future. Maybe sometime in 2004, maybe. But pretty tough to forsee even then.

Elite is pretty tough to get to for someone not built to pull.

Let's see, 1875 breaks down to a 700 squat (No freaking way!!!) Plus a 550 bench (doable, and soon) leaving a 625 deadlift. Not on your life.

Not happening anytime soon to this boy, sadly. Well, thank goodness they have bench only meets. I guess I am going to have to leave the 3 lifts to the real men and women on the board, and stick with my gimmic lift.

Such is life, I suppose.

And bigokie, no, I am not sore. But I was not stretching the bands nearly as far as you, either.
