lying french extensions and pressure on elbows

whatever you call them, lying french extensions or tricep extensions with an ez bar, i feel a lot of pressure in my elbows when i perform them. could this be something with my form, or does this exercise tend to do this. i hold my arms locked a little above my nipple area, and keep my elbows at this location and move the weight down to around my forhead or a little farther, is this ok range or am i doing something wrong?

Are your elbows flairing out? if so this means you are using too much weight. This is a very delicate excercise that put a lot of torque and shearing on your joints. Try to wamrup with lighter weights and go for a controlled cadence. Keep your elbow at shoulder width, and you arms coimng straight down, almost to your shoulders, not toward the inside.

I found that doing that exercise using a tricep bar instead of the ez-curl bar took a lot of pressure off my elbows. Maybe it has to do with the direction of my hands. (Facing each other as opposed to away from me.) Anyway, my elbows feel a lot better after switching.

Try doing the exercise on an incline .

the incline should be just high enough so you can see your triceps workinh in the mirror.

think of them as pistons slowly going up and down

and warm up with a couple of sets of cable pushdown to warm the area up

yeah my elbows dont flare out, i keep them totally steady. as for dips, do you guys consider this a good substitute for a mass tricep builder, i havent done them in a while for triceps b/c i dont want to do too many sets and i feel this exercise uses my pecs alot too.

they do.... but you can keep them out of the movement as much as possible by keeping your body perpendicular to the ground.

Try warming up REALLY well, first whole body, walking, running for a few minutes, then do some really light tricep press-downs or something like that. This works for me.
