Low libido in woman

My wife is in the same boat

Her libido dropped off the charts so she had some blood work to try and see what's going on.

She had a blood test done and it showed very low test levels.

She also had a saliva test done and it showed off the chart high test levels.

To say the least, it's confusing. She's always been natural, so she hasn't taken anything to mess with her levels.

Any thoughts on what test to believe? I had to pay for the saliva test with my own $$ and I'd rather not foot that bill again.

The problem with blood tests for hormones is that many labs do not distinguish between free and total hormone levels, whereas a reliable saliva test will be measuring free hormone levels exclusively. The time of day and time of month that the tests are performed can also dramatically affect the outcome so that a blood test and saliva test can differ a lot if they're taken at different times or aren't measuring unbound hormone. A good blood test for test should measure free test at the same time of day and same day of the monthly cycle over several months to be meaningful. If this is not done you can't be sure that any 'treatment' is working. Same is true for saliva testing if you want to monitor change in test levels.....same time of day and month over several months. but then again if sides are acceptable and libido goes up, do you really care what the test results say??

and.......

Just because you increase her blood T conc doesn't mean her libido will increase. Blood levels of a hormone within certain limits may not always be predictive of a given outcome, especially a psychological one.

Methyl-T and Halotestin will not be picked up in a testosterone assay and may affect endogenous circulating concentrations, thus if either is used, checking for circulating testosterone will be useless. Also, Methyl-T and Halo will supress SHBG and possibly reduce free T because of increased catabolism.

Personally, I'd stay with a T ester or gel vs with Methyl-T or Halo. You want increased libido, not increased non-sexual aggression or psychotic behavior.

im with wilson. if another round of test doesnt do the trick, id go there.

All valid points and all well taken. My wife however is predisposed to acne. I am concerned about side effects because I do not want to deter her from how far she has come. She has never used AAS and is trusting me with whatever I give her. She is totally willing to try and solve this problem and valid point was addressed by W6. Could it be in her head? She wants to be back to normal. We still have sex. She can still orgasm through oral intercourse but the desire to have sex like before she had the children is just not there. So, is it entirly possilble that even if her test levels are brought up that she could still feel no desire? I know when I was using sust I was horny as hell but I have a high sex drive to begin with but it became more than average while on. So consesus is to use the Methyltest? What about cypionate or enanthate would they be equally as effective?

Enanthate and cypionate have 6 - 7 d half-lives. If she has acne problems, the longer last esters could be problematic. What about T propionate?

I'd really work on the andro gel first via a script. It is easy to control low dosing and the T is out in a matter of hours following the last dose. Less potential sides than oral androgens.

As Wilson6 pointed out, the relationship between T levels and libido is not so clear. I have always had pretty decent (above normal for a female) levels of both free and total T (no I don't have PCOS), yet I have never really had any strong libido. In females much more than males, libido is as much a psychological issue as a hormonal prob. Sure, if you bring a women's T levels up to normal young male levels you will likely see a noticeable boost in libido, but most women do not want the other androgenic sides that go with that level of supplementation! So it really is a trail and error thing.

If your wife is not reading this thread I would strongly suggest you try a placebo injection or gel to begin with. Tell her it will get her libido sky-high in a matter of a few days, and sit back and watch. I'll bet you money that things improve. If not, THEN try the real McCoy.

Well people I have it narrowed down to it is in her head or it is her chemical imbalance. I really wish I had the answer to this. The placebo will not work and I will tell you why. My wife is not that influenced by words. I could tell her this is guaranteed to work as I have with alot of the other things and she is like yeah right. In other words, for her it is action not words. The thing about the Androderm when she took it was that she did not feel any difference. I mean you would feel something different whether it be side effects, aggression, whatever. She did not feel a damn thing at all. This is what led me to believe that it was not being prescribed properly and now I am finding out that it was not prescribed the way it should have been. I would LOVE to get my hands on some andorgel, however the doctor she was seeing will not prescribe it and this is why I needed to get a second opinion which I cannot get until January. We do not want to wait that long. We want to find out if the test works if not then we need to move onto the head area. I just find it a little ironic that she wants to improve this and then would convince herself that she is not enjoying it and it seems a little coincidental that she has low T-levels. Too many factors at play and I really hope this works. I am going to Mexico in a few days. I will pick up some Methyl T. Problem with proprianate is that shot painful? I was using sust at 750mg a week and the pain hung around for a couple days. Is this not from the Prop? I do not know if it would be with low doses, any input? I first thought of Prop because it is fast acting with a short half life. Downfall, have to use it everyday. Thanks again for all the help people.

This is my very first time posting on this forum. I was referred here by someone who posts at another forum and she said that perhaps I could recieve some good answers here. My wife has been diagnosed by her doctor as having low testosterone. The problem is we have tried just about every supplement there is that says it will make you more sexually excited and it has not worked. We have four children and will not be having any more. We have tried the dating thing and taking time for ourselves and no improvement. Her doctor prescribed her the andorderm patch which delivers 2.5mg of test a day but she only gave her four of them and told her to take them one per week. It did not work. My wife went back to the doctor and the doctor will not prescribe her anything else and I know there are other things out there. We have decided to go solo on this and try something ourselves. So the question is what do you women take that has increased your sex drive with the least side effects? This is not for enhancement of her body at all. She is 29 years of age. She can still have an orgasm, the drive to have sex though is not there. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wow! That sounds complex! I just unzip my pants and it usually helps most women! :D
