About 3 weeks ago I got my ass kicked in a bench press contest and it has restarted my blazing fire for the weight room. Sorry for the all the questions. Can you guys tell me proper form on the squat. I was doing some today and I didnt feel a burn like I did last time and my lower right back hurt a little. Would I be doing anything wrong?

Thanks

Here are some form rules for squatting:

1. Never, never, ever round your back, you should arch it or keep it straight.

2. Always look straight.

3. Stick your chest out.

4. Never, ever let your knees out past your toes.

5. Stick your ass out.

I prefer my feet slightly pointed out and slightly wider than shoulder width. This seems to be the most stable position.

Good luck

you may have not been going low enough..... try butt to the floor......... or at least parallel

next time you see a big dude squatting proper in the gym get some pointers, I'm sure he will be happy to help if you show the interest. Text on a forum just isn't the same bro...

Another good way to increase your squats is to go as low as you can when you do them, almost touching your ass to the floor. Obviously you're going to have to use less weight but it's a really good excercise for strengthening your hamstrings. I only go up to about 225 when I do them and my quats is about 550. That's just to give you a good idea. This exercise will also help it not to feel so low when you're doing regular squats (sort of a mental thing). Try it out!!!
