Is sugar always "bad" or is a little bit okay? & good carb sources.

Should you always avoid sugar as much as possible when cutting, or is a little bit alright? For example, is eating a chocolate chip granola bar alright, or should that be left to cheat days only?

Also, I'm eating 1300-1400 calories a day (this may seem low but it seems to be a decent amount for me), and getting about 80 grams of carbs per day. I know many of you eat 1/2 cup of brown rice or a sweet potato regularly, but is a full cup too much? Aside from veggies, what are some other good carb sources?

Im pretty sure its ok to eat a certain amount of sugar, but i dont think you want the kind your gonna find in an oatmeal bar like what your talking about. Im not to sure about that to be honest. About your cals, how much do you weigh? Im sure you know your body best, but still that is incredibly low. A lot of people use stuff like oatmeal, steel cut oats, for carbs. I personally get some of the carbs i use from milk. Not to many unless your on a no-carb diet, which from what you said you arnt on, so thats a good source for me. Good luck with your diet

Try to avoid anything processed as processed items usually have hydrogenated oils in them which are bad for ya, also the sugar isn't good either.....

Try to eat items that are the least processed they can be....

Carbs = brown rice, veggies, beans, sweet potatoes.....

Leave those for a cheat meal/day. Eating clean all the time will have psychological effects. I think you'd progress more if you kept those out though. And...be really careful with hydrogenated oils, those wreck your physique and overall health. Oatmeal is an amazing carb source but as with anything look at the ingredients. Make sure there isn't added sugar. As jenscat said, the least processed the better...although with oatmeal, cooking the most unrefined oats can take quite awhile.
