Is it normal to not be able to get the db's up on your own for presses and inclines?

Do you guys need help to get the dbs up? I mean, just into position. I can crank out 10-12 reps on a weight that I can't get up into position to start.

Hmmmm...did the 100's overhead a few weeks ago. Was the first time I had been able to do dbells overhead in a long time. Was fun to get them up there...but I did it.

For my purposes...getting the dbell up there is very important...I just look at it as another way to gain strength...

i have tears in both my shoulders SW so i don't do as much weight as i should, but i get help getting mine up or else i'll have alot of pain after. once i get them up, its not problem, but it is an akward movement to get them up sometimes.

Either have both of them handed to you like I normally do once I get over 100lb DB's with shoulder presses, or sometimes I "snatch" the weight up....Grab the DB's and keep them at yoru side, position yourself so you can sit right down on the bench, clean/jerk or snacth (whatever is the proper term) the weight up as you drop real quick to your butt on the bench...in actuality you only move the weight a few inches or so, cause you literally position yourself under the weight before having to lift it much.

OR

Buy those little grip hangers that you can attach to say the bar on the smith machine, and place each DB there and let them hang then just take the DB's off and start pressing.

NYM has some good ideas there. Although I would be VERY careful snatching dbs (that's the right term) if you have never practiced the snatch.

Problem is - if you get TOO MUCH upward momentum going on the db's, then if you were really doing Olympic Lifting, you'd just BAIL & let them fly behind you & fall to the ground. Not a problem in the OL training center - that's what you're *supposed* to do ("bumper" plates are rubberized on a plywood & rubber platform). I see it happen all the time.

You can't bail with iron db's in a regular gym! So you risk injuring yourself if you misjudge - an easy thing to do when working with momentum.

I don't know if it's 'normal'. I would be able to get the db's up, as would my training partner. Few others at my "gym" lifted heavy, so I never saw that.
