Would someone please define this? I hear the term used all the time across all the boards. But I have never heard it defined. Is it giving it all you have for every lift during a workout? Length of time between lifts, sets, reps?

My interpretation of "Intensity" is giving every lift everything I have each workout session. THAT is how I have been judging whether my workout's are intense.

Love to hear some others definitions of what we are all calling "Intensity"....

Your definition is as good as mine man. I could ballpark it and say that it is giving all you have, all your heart, into your workout. Busting out that last squat, when no one thinks you have it in you. Pulling that 3, 4, 5, or 6 plate deadlift as if you're ripping the boards right out of the floor. Intensity is pouring all of your soul into all of your workout. No sweat, no tears, no pain, no blood ... no intensity ...
 
It appears that you and I have the same definition about it.

I am curious then why many people in here say that if your workout lasts longer than, say, 45 mins, that you can't lift that whole time with intensity. Tired or not, I hit every lift with full intensity, and my workouts tend to be longer than some in here. (60-90mins.) My opinion is that my body doesn't know how much I am lifting, just that it takes all I have to lift it.

Intensity can be defined in many ways...

I train with intensity...wether it is through speed, time, rest, volume, etc...it is all intense. I still think that there is some correlation between intensity, volume, and frequency.

for me its % of max mainly

drop sets, super sets etc and all that stuff is not described as intense in my definition, I would call them taxing or fatiguing. This is endurance stuff

here is agood gauge - Sprinting 50m all out is very intense. Jogging a marathon is not - it is fatiging though :)
