As a bodybuilder for two years i have learned the most important thing in training is rest. Many people come into the gym and constantly interrupt my training to ask," how do i get big?" well, first i tell them to EAT, Sleep and train (in that order). A few weeks later I see the same people doing the same exercises with the same weights and complaining that they haven't gained size. So inturn ask me again and again the same question saying that it isn't working. Well, i AGAIN tell them to EAT, Sleep and train. I eventually have to break it down for them. eating big mac's and fries just doesn't cut it...eat volume with QUALTITY (plus, the money you save shopping on Sunday for the whole week is quite apparent). Then i tell them to sleep a MINIMUM of eight hours (if their working schedules allow them to do so). Third, i tell them to train SMART. If they tell me that they are doing all of this then i resort to the question...how much rest do you allow? For me, i take wednesdays and sundays off (to shop for food) and sleep. Resting is NOT overrated. i would much rather listen to my body and take a day off and let slight injuries or muscle soreness to heal. Beginning weightlifters think that the gym is the place to grow. It's not the hour you spend in the gym that makes you grow, it's everything outside of the gym.
Be Smart....Listen to your body, it's the only reliable source.
