Implant and training ?

I have always thought about getting implants- and still do want to, but I am afraid that if I have to take a long time off from training that I'll get out of shape.
How long after is the normal time to return to training?
Did it set anyone back a lot? Thats the only thing I am worried about.
I know this girl who was in great shape and was training for the Fitness Am.....then she got implants, and now I can't even tell she used to work out.

Normally, just 2 weeks.......in 2 weeks you can start cardio......3 weeks, light wts.......4-6weeks you can lift regularly......the layoff was great for me........I came back stronger than ever, especially on chest......but I got mine over the muscle, which you recover much quicker than under the muscle......do a search and you will find plenty of info. Good Luck!

Upon having implants, my doctor recommended cardio after 2 weeks, lower body workouts after 3 & upper body after 6 weeks layoff. My six weeks is up next week and man am I looking forward to getting my upper body back. After six weeks, things are starting to look a little soft. BTW, I had mine done under the muscle.

What aim high said - I also had "unders" done, actually 2 years ago today (happy b-day girls! ) :bday: :arty: :arty: ) and by April I had started training for my first competition 16 weeks later. Unders take longer to heal because they actually cut into the muscle a little, but my doc said it would have no effect on my ability to train or develop my pecs, once healed of course. They were tight because the muscle has to get used to the extra "stuff" in there, but as w/ all surgeries, there is some getting accustomed to change. For the first week or two you probably won' t have too much appetite any way because of the painkillers, just take it as a good time to get some sleep & recovery in. Esp. the unders surgery has some affect on the mobility of your torso, but you can start back in w/ cardio as soon as you are comfortable walking (and upon doctor's recommendation of course). And then just work into the resistance training. And, obviously, be sure to wear some sort of top w/ support - you wont' want to "bounce" for a while....
And, "overs" surgery will probably be even less of an issue since it does not cut into the muscle.

Thanks girls.
I am also afraid that they will look like to giant tennis balls stuck to my chest!
I mean, I am small, and I have never had big breasts....so there really isnt a lot of skin to work with.....especially when I get leaner .......so that worries me also.
Ive seen some really lean women and there is no smooth transition from the upper pec to the implant...it's just like flat and then BOOM!! Theres a big round ball!!

as with any surgery, you are going to have some lay over time. what aim high and sassy69 said....and mine were under too. :D

fyi - they may end up looking like balls stuck to your chest for a few weeks. i am a small girl and mine did. but they "fall". people tell me all the time how natural they look and they would have never guessed....but let me tell you....the first month i had two grape fruits stuck to my chest. but it is worth it!!!!!!

Alex,

Talk to your doc about silicone implants. Don't know if or when they'll get back on the US market, but they don't produce the tennis ball look.

COnsult several diff docs until you find one you're comfortable w/ and get recommendations from patients. See if they are "conservative" or tell u they do lots of strippers. Also see if they have ever done any fbb's or fitness girls - they usually have a portfolio of pix to look at (before / after). A really good doc will give you proportionate size implants - not beach ball monstrosities.

You sound similar to me, I had very little to work with because i was very lean, I got my implants under the muscle but I also chose a tear drop shape instead of a round ( they look more natural). After my surgery I took 2 months of because the first 4 weeks I was not allowed to wear a bra, it was supposed to let the breast drop naturally.Like the other girls posted make sure the implant looks propotional to your body. It was the best choice i have ever made ! :)
