i'm 15, and i'm 5'9 and 200 pounds.

I would like to be around 160 pounds by June.

I'm sick of failing

anyone want to recommend me a diet?

I'm thinking about doing what's in the "Do it youself: how i lost 50 pounds" diet that's stickied in here.

I'm not really sure on what kind of weight training workout to do, i want to weight train 5x a week. Once on monday, on tuesday, on wednesday, on thursday, and on either saturday or sunday morning.

Well first off 15 is a little young to go on a 'diet'

I think the best route to take is to change some bad habbits.
Do you drink Soda?
Do you eat candy/snack/baked foods a lot?

yeah a hardcore diet is probably not needed yet...

change up some of your foods and just start exercising....for instance, if you cant break yourself from drinking sodas, only allow one at meal time, otherwise drink water...instead of fried chicked tenders get grilled..lite mayo on sandwhiches, baked chips etc.

if people would just get active theyd lose some weight

It could also be baby fat, if your still 200 when your 17 you would need to diet some.
regardless you need to eat healthy and stay healthy

just start lifting and eating right. no need for an extreme diet. at yer age you should gain muscle at a descent rate. and if u kick out all the shitty foods, like soda and candy and chips, and stick to good foods, youll lose fat.

hey now I was 210-240 when I was 17 and very little was fat ;-)

240 bulked up for football and 210-215 once wrestling season began.

but then I was 6'3" back then lol

You're young.

1. Cut out all the bullshit(Fast food, sugars, sodas, dorritos, etc etc)

2. Get your ass to the gym 4 days a week. Train hard with intensity. Do 20 minutes of cardio after.

3. Eat quality foods.

And watch your body change ...

ok um guys why do you guys think he shouldn't have a diet? he doesnt need a very restrictive diet, he needs a balanced diet. Listen man make sure you are getting quality and not empty calories. Stick to the good foods (Aka grilled chicken, yams, tuna, egg whites, etc)... at your age your metabolism is probably very high, just start working out (higher rept/ low rest) and do some cardio and you will be fine. Cut out all sodas and learn to love water and skim milk and you will be fine.

Age. someone at 15 years old should not 'go on a diet'

they should completely change their eating habbits. Overweight that young is a result of some very bad habits or possibly a medical problem (hypothyroidism). Typically not good for a younger to go on a less than caloric maintenance diet since they are still growing. Best to just cut out soda, junk food, and limit fast food

I ment he should go on a diet that is more based on good foods then on empty cals, so basically what you said.

The wording: "go on a diet"

I really try hard to not use those 4 words together like that for someone who wants to lose a dramatic amount of fat. "Going on a diet" assumes that at some point you will come off...
I think the kid needs to just make some basic changes in habits, get more active and the rest will fall in place.

"Going on a diet" is for competitions, getting ready for a wedding, cruise, or other special events. It is NOT a solution to get in shape or drop from 35% bf down to 18% bf because when you 'go on a diet' the only way to keep that progress is to go on an indefinate maintenance 'diet'. My advice for a 15 yr old is to skip the diet part and change some fundamental eating habbits so that a 'diet' is never necessary.

I'm also speaking from personal experience. I was 200 lbs +++ in 5th grade! up to 215 by the time I was in 7th grade. It all changed when I started wrestling and the coaches told us to quit drinking soda and stop eating mcdonalds. I actually started eating MOORE, but it wasn't fast food and I wasn't drinking soda. I got down to 162 with only 2 months or so of not drinking soda, not eating fast food and having wrestling practice every weekday.

SPEAKING OF WHICH

ozzyoz: GO OUT FOR WRESTLING. It's great especially if you are larger. You are wrestling other people your size. You aren't going to run into any heavyweights at your age that are heavyweights because their last name is Cutler or Coleman.

At 15, you don't need a 'strict' diet. What you need is to clean up the diet you are on right now - meaning your day to day food intake.

1) take out junk food
2) take out sodas

That's a start. You should try adding 1 tbsp. flaxseed oil in the morning, but for now everything else should be your regular diet. Remember, at your age, your body is going thru changes, so you need to keep it in a 'fed' state. Going on crash diets is not healthy, especially for someone your age. Eventually, you'll start naturally leaning out as you're growing more and more.
