I love the 5x5

I just wanted to share with you guys my progress while on the 5x5 incase any of you were wondering if it works. In my case it worked better then I could have imagined. Also to let you know before i started this I had never deadlifted before and I was not serious about squats. I was what you would call a upper body "glory" lifter. Which basically meant I only cared about how much I could bench and how big my arms where. This program was better for arms and bench then anything I have ever done. I owe to deads and squats. I started this program at the end of august. I will list what I started with and what I am currently doing for 5x5:

Bench: Started 295. Currently 335
Squat: Started 275. Currently 350
Deadlift: Started 275. Currently 370
Close Grip Press: Started: 265, Currently 310
BB bicep curls: Started: 100, Currently 125
Shoulders press I always do after chest so my lifts depends on how hard chest was, but for db presses I started usually do 90 or 95 and for barbell military press I have done the 5x5 with 210 and when I started I could only do around 185. I just wanted to show guys that this program really works and also I attribute much of the success to deads and squats. They are quickly becoming my favorites.

Great stats and progress man...keep the progress comming and let us know all about it!!!

How long have you been training 5X5? What's your split? What's your progression scheme, i.e., do you start with a weight that you can do for 1X5, 1X4, 1X3, 1X3, 1X2, and keep it there until you can do 5X5 with it, or do you do the opposite?

I really love high volume/high intensity mixed routines, as well. I have had great luck with Korte's 3X3 conditioning phase.

When I first started the 3X3, I could squat 370X6 reps. Now, after about 4 months of training in that style, I can crank 405X6, and I havent been watching my diet hardly. Also, it has done good things for my deadlift, bringing it up from 405X6 to 425X6 in about the same amount of time. It hasn't done much for my bench, however, which has pretty much stayed stagnant since.

My split is
Monday: Chest and shoulders
Tuesday: Back
Wed: off
Thursday: Bi's and Tri's
Friday: Legs
Sat: off
Sun: off

When I first started this I just sort of guessed a weight that I though could for 5 sets of 5. Now what I do is I try to hit 5 reps on all 5 reps. When I can get that I go up by 5 pounds. On deads and squats I sometimes go up 10. I usually go up every week actually. I have not been stuck on anything for more then one week. When I have trouble it is usually with 5 rep on the 4th and 5th sets. When I get for more then a few weeks I may try a 5x3 or 3x5 as recommended by needsize who seems to be father of this routine on this board. By the way, thanks needsize. Anyways I hope this answers your question.

No problem bro, this version of the 5x5 is the brainchild of myself and a nationally ranked powerlifter that i used to train with, I like to share it as other seem to end up getting great results with it, same as I did
