I just bought 19 ipods and 13 coats...

I'm not sure how an ipod is a necessity for an under privaleged kid. It was a very nice gesture, but i'm sure their are a lot of other things that they probably need before an ipod.

well, what they do is ask the kids themselves what they WANT for christmas, not what the NEED. Its a WISHLIST. No kid in their right mind is going to ask for socks or school books for Christmas. come on now,

I think that the beauty of getting a gift is that it is something that will make you happy, not just always something you need. They are the ones who put what they wanted on the cards. The teens all seemed to want music and video games. Every kid who put "coat" on their card, I got them one, even if I also got them something fun to play with.

But someone needs to teach them the difference between Want/Need...Otherwise aren't the "givers" just perpetuating the cycle of bad finances?

For instance, say when these children get older are they going to know wether or not to pay the rent or buy that new tv they've been wanting?
