I Am So Sick Of Wondering If Iam Hurt!!

I might also suggest high rep db work. Both to speed recovery as well as strengthen the connective tissue in the shoulder joint.

JAY bro I know nothing of torn pecs, BUT I do hope that u have a speedy recovery.

It's cool that your giving 100% westside a chance. I've been givin it another shot for bout 4 weeks now I'm on my 5th week I can't wait to see if I do this meet in FT MYERS(now it's debatable whether or not i can do it due to college starting) how much I can put on my total.

On a good note I'm sure you'll be glad to hear that when I tried your raw benching method I did get a higher rep your BW max. That's a start I guess. Thanks

Get better soon.

Well i just got in and all day i have been messin with it. It definitly is not torn. . I got up and 3 am to check for bruising and there si none. BUt there is a pinch. So i will be easy.

I still wander if i can do 5 brd!! Naw i might skip all that this week. BUt iam doing max effort dead/squat night in a bit. I am just curious to see if i can do pull downs with zero pain.

If you all remember when i was in Indy last year i was squatting (warming up actually) and pulled something in my quad with 315. Dont know what but i couldnt squat for 3 weeks. But then it was gone , and hasnt returned. I guyess shit just pulls every now and then. My shoulder that i pulled before the meet, it was swollen and sore. Now nothing. Not a sign.

I liek the massage idea. I also liek the high rep dumbell idea. Those are a will do. Thanks guys.

pljay;

i just re-read your post where you ask what will happen if you convert to westside.

at first, your bench may go down. the most common mistake on westside is to do it AND the shit you normally do. I have done that.

The other mistake is to keep speed weight too heavy. You are an awesome bencher. You may not like having to go to the gym and using 235 lbs or so for your work. That is what George H. uses (plus shitloads of bands). That's why i train in the basement of my house. I can put the fucking bar on with 10 mini bands and bench with it, and I am the king :) Nobody fucking asks me anything stupid. You will just have to develop thicker skin.

I am not sure what happens to your raw bench. Apparently, some westside followers go raw every once in awhile. I think George does NOT use a shirt inside the gym on most ME days unless he is trying out new gear. Post on elitefts and ask.

Are you guaranteed never to get injured: no. anytime you are pushing 600+ in a contest, even with denim, there is that chance. But I think by not repping with heavy weights week in and week out, you are limiting the amount of micro-tearing that is going on, and thereby lessening your chances of serious injury.

I know that when I first started seeing my massage lady, she was seriously appalled by the amount of scar tissue I had on both sides of my chest, in my pecs and shoulders. I used to be able to feel it too. It was nasty. Now, there is a serious reduction in the amount there.

Good luck brother, whatever you decide to do. It's like russian roulette. everytime you get a mini injury like you did the other day, you are flipping the cartridge again.

Damn Powerlifterjay, sorry to hear about your injury. I too am getting ready to go westside and scared of losing my raw strength.

Ican give you a reason why the raw bench goes down with westside.

I have said this before about my own trainng and kinda just did on Freaks new post. BUt when i am gettign ready for a meet 10 weeks out iam ready to go into major training. My goal was to build alot fo muscle endurance. I did reps. Now before my reps dropped into doubles and singles, i am reppin 405 for 12 plus reps, 455 for 8 reps, and thats AFTER i hit 500 for 3 or 4. Raw. Now when th econtest gets near i basicaly hit triples and doubles and then one or two or three shirt attempts. I then do the meet. Now when i resume trainng after the meet i never go over 405 for a few weeks. I do this because i am stronger on my maxes but my (repping) endurance is gone. I swear i cant hit 405 for 6 to 8. I lose 5 reps or so off my bench. Because i hadnt been doing it for weeks. But my board singles are still up where they were, and still go up. Thats why some people can rep a certain percentage of their max but not hit a good max. There body is primed to hit reps. Its like a fighter who can fight for 12 rounds with good speed all rounds. But he doesnt hit like a mule. Unlike th eother fighter who bangs everyone out in 3 rounds cause his punch is liek a horse kick!! But take him into the later rounds and he gases out. Its too different things.

I think with westside my reps will drop to where they are after a contest. Mainly cause ia m not primed for it. Some of you may not understand what i mean , but i ahev been training this way since th eday i competed and i know what my body does.

Westside here i come!!

Makes sense Jay, I agree with you on that because I noticed that as well because I train my raw bench just like that.

Sometimes the supplements can mask and cover up injuries, a way to make for sure that one is not injured it to stop the supplements for a few months and see how the body feels. It is what I did after I had my final surgery to reattach my tricep tendon and now I am back to benching 560 for 3 with out a shirt. Which was my best 1.5 years ago and I am doing it a 275 instead of 315 body weight.

PLJAY..I tore a pec about 4 years ago...It was only 405, came up on the 3rd rep..I felt kind of strange, something didnt feel quite right, so i called it a day...It was sore in the shoulder , pec tie in...the place you normally get sore from raw benches..trained the rest of the week, the next bench session came up..i was warming up, 135 X15 for 2 sets, 225X5, then 315X5, then 365 and on the first rep, it pinched or rolled just like you said..I stopped, went home, iced it..the next day it was sore, not awful though, and felt tweeked though...as the week went on, it was still sore..no bruise at all..Well, my job has great insurance..went and got the MRI..it was slightly torn! never bruised! I could stretch it, do a push up, and yes, i was able to lock the weight out! I gave it 2 full weeks off, started back with just the bar, and stretches, added a 10lb plate a week until i was up to 135, did sets of 10 with that for 2 weeks, then slowly, very very slowly went up each week! it took me a good 6 months to get fully back!
Back when Ryan was here in Florida, i was doing lockouts, and the same freakin spot got tweeked! I took 3 weeks off, and started back slow..and here again, while at the football camp, tweeked the same spot! I am laying off the bands for a while and just doing dumbells etc..sets of 8...
I agree with the guys on this...I only go 225 with purple bands on speed day, thats it! cut that raw benching out!!!!!

Last night i did 4 brd light. I could feel it but not too bad with the high board. I went up to 225 on my warmup with no boards. So who knows i will be easy for th next few weeks.

Buti just read on Go heavy that the bench bash is back on in Sept. That sucks i planned everything around Nov. I will not hit what i want then. Not to mention i would almost need to get ready now. I am fixingto call and see if there is somehting in Nov. Cause in additon to sept there is one in Nov too. I just dont knwo what.
