Hello all: How many grams of carbohydrates do i need a day in order to get cut? 50? 80?

Here is my diet and tell me if i need to cut some carbohydrates in it:

BREAKFAST

1 vanilla whey protein shake
Ingredients:
1 1/2 scoop of Optimum Nutrition Vanilla whey protein shake
8 oz. of 1% milk
4 oz. of water
a lot of ice
6 packets of equal or splenda diet sugar
1/4 teaspoon of salt
Put it in the blender for 3 minutes until smoothy, add more ice if needed

LUNCH:

A plate of green vegetables made with green cabbage, brussel sprouts, brocoli
1/3 cup of boiled rice
8 oz. of baked chicken

DINNER:

A CREAM OF WHEAT WITH WHEY PROTEIN
50 grs of cream of wheat (Farina)
8 oz. of 1% milk
12 oz. of water
1/2 teaspoon of salt
6 packets of equal, or splenda
cook at high fire until boiling point, lower heat and cook 3 minutes at low heat. Pour in 1 scoop of vanilla or chocolate whey protein powder and mix well, and remaing cooking at low heat for 2 minutes.

Let it cool, outside of fire. When cool put it in the freezer for 2-3 hours until hard, not until it's frozen, but until its hard like a cold dessert. Eat cold and enjoy

AFTER DINNER A PLATE OF FRUIT-SALAD made with: apples, peaches, pineapples

Ok poptart, we need some more information from you.

How old are you?

How much do you weight, your height and bodyfat (if you know this)?

How long have you been training and what type?

What are you cutting for?

What is the timing of your meals?

When do you workout?

Yes, low carb diets work, but if you are not careful and know what you are doing, you will lose muscle.

There are a few things I could critique about your diet, however, you may have just moved into healthy eating, and what you are doing now is a major breakthrough for you.

I am sure the lads will be here and give you a bit more advice, like eating 6 smaller meals a day, rather than 3, and not eating fruit at night.................

Hi Tatyana...I find that last statement of yours interesting and peculiar. Sometimes I eat fruit at night. What's wrong with that? (not being sarcastic or anything, I really want to know)

There is nothing 'wrong' with eating fruit at night on a normal diet, fruit is great.

However, if your goals are cutting up, fruit is a simple sugar. There are two things that will happen, as far as I have been able to work out in my research, when you take in the sugar from fruit (fructose) later at night.

1. Fructose will spike insulin (but not to the same degree as other simple sugars) and how it is processed in the body, it is not stored in the muscle (which is where we want most of our sugars to go post-training, and in general).

Sugar/simple carbs can only be stored in two other places, the liver (holds about 200 g on average in a 70 kg man) or it is converted to triacylglycerol and is stored as fat.

Later in the day, your liver is more likely to be full, so guess where those carbs are more likely to go............that's right, FAT. And as they have to be processed in the liver (mainly), they get stored in the closest location, which is the belly.

Bodybuilders on comp diets, in general don't eat any fruit.

Fruit before training or earlier in the day is great.

2. I am always looking for ways to maximise my natural GH release. Carbs late at night will elicit that insulin spike. Insulin and GH act in opposition to each other, so when insulin is high, GH is low and vice versa. We release the most GH when we are in a deep sleep, but that may be blunted by eating carbs late at night.

As we all know, GH promotes lipolysis, or breakdown of fat.

I have been told that there are some metabolic conditions that comp BBers get into that some carbs late at night will promote fat loss, I am going to be going over all my metabolic pathways again to see if I can figure that one out.

Fibrous carbs late at night are a better option IMHO, things like brocolli, cauliflower, all the green leafy veggie stuff, asparagus, cabbage...............

I also think that it is better to try and eat fruit that is in season, and 'local' fruit, or the type that your ancestors would have eaten, so things like apples in the winter, berries in the summer would be the best fruit choices.

needtogetaas how come u think its better to eat fruit like apples in winter and berries in summer?

I don't remember saying that bro. If I had to give a reason though the only thing I could think of off the top of my head would be price. Berries are cheaper in the summer. Apples are cheaper in the fall and winter. Again I don't remember saying it though.

your not supposed to eat much of anything at night or normal non bulkers arent

I eat just before I sleep, and I am especially vigilent about this on a cutting or comp diet.

I think that women's stupid dieting advice 'don't eat anything after 8 o'clock at night' has permeated the culture, and it is NOT GOOD ADVICE.

oh im sorry needtogetaas i wasnt paying much attention to the poster above me and i thought it was you im sorry my mistake i meant to ask tatyana that question

You may have heard of the 'bodybuilding' diet advice, eat like a caveman.

Most of our human history has been in synch with the natural world, so we ate what was growing in that season, or ate things in the winter that stored well. Apples are one of these fruits.

I just think trying to eat this way really works, and you may notice that what you actually want to eat when it is really cold outside, or really hot, varies.

I learned a lot about healthy diet from studying macrobiotics, which is basically traditional Japanese cooking.

One of the basic premises of it is to eat whole natural foods, and also to balance the yin (female) and yang (male). The ultimate YIN food is sugar, whereas the ultimate YANG food is salt and red meat.

I like to keep my dieting and training as much 'back to basics' as possible.

So I eat like a caveman most of the time, loads of veg, meat, some grains, some fruit that is in season. I minimise things like 'baked' or processed grains (breads, ryvitas, rice cakes (oooooooooooh I LURVE them though).

The only exception to this is supplements like whey protien.

Does this answer your question?
