How many days a week do you workout?

Realgains said:
It does not matter how much you sleep or how well you eat, you simply will not gain very well training 5-6 times per week with weights unless you are on roids or are very genetically blessed but probably both. Now if you add cardio to that then it will make things worse.

Unless you are still only hitting each muscle group once a week like you stated later in your post.

NOPE!.....5-6 days in the gym with weights is too much for the vast majority of trainees, even if you are hitting each muscle group only once per week. Systemic drain is just too much unless you are either genetically gifted (very few) and or are taking steroids and probably both. Muscle seem to be able to recuperate faster than the nervous system.

I am talking about weight training for strength and muscle and not just for tone.

I know this is hard for many to believe because we have been brain washed by the BS glossy mags for SOOO long. As I have said, the people in the mags ARE NOT typical people and are in fact in the top 5% genetically. Not only that but most, including the fitness competitors, are on steroids.

The test is ...are you progressing with your strength and at least some progressive muscle gain or not.....I am talking about real progression here like 10- 20 pounds to your squat for reps in the last 3 months. (unless you are very very near your genetic natural maximum potential)

Can you squat 200 pounds 10 times DEEP if you have been training for several years?

Hmmm...Perhaps i could have better gains... But I haven't heard much negitive talk about a five day work out.

I noticed Warlobo said he is on a 9 day rotation, taking every other day of. Interesting.

With Lobo's program you end up in the gym 4 day out of 7 the first week and 3 days out of 7 the second week...also, he takes a day off from weights after each day in the gym. Thats a pretty good program for adding strength and muscle to the body

Why don't you give that system a try on a three way split. Reduce your training volume, that is the number of working sets, and train harder with more intensity and focus on MICRO LOADING like I mention in my "sticky" post on training.

The reason that you have not heard much negative talk about a five day per week weight training program is because it is the norm and this is due to brainwashing from the glossy mags....it does not mean that it is the best way to train for strength and muscle for the majority of trainees. Always remember that those routines are promoted by the genetically gifted or the genetically gifted on roids.

So for most training naturally it makes good sence to train with weights MON-WED and FRI on a three way split hitting each muscle group directly once per week. Then you could do cardio 3-5 times per week.

If you ever really want to pack on some strength and size then you do need to limit the cardio to three times per week for 30-45 minutes per session.

Good luck

That's pretty much what I do anyway. Right now I have to focus more on cardio because for several months was full of crap.

If I want to compete in the Galaxy/Nova I'll ahve to focus my cardio just on interval training and gain strength. Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm training 3 times per week. I do take a week off every 8 -10 weeks. Have made the most gains EVER doing this. Would and Do recc this for those who are not making the gains they should be. -valerie
