How many days a week do you workout?

Current goal:

Weights: 4X per week (legs, chest/back, core (abs/lower back), & shoulders/bis/tris)
Cardio: Shooting for 3X per week
Yoga: teach 1X per week

I'm in the gym most days of the week, when I can GET there! Darn snow storm!

6 times a week for me too.

Cardio
M-T-W-Th-F-Sa for 30-45 minutes (sometimes skip T or Th, depending on the week)

Weights
Upper Body- M (Ba/Sh) W (Ch/Bi/Tri) F (Ba/Sh). I have trouble adding muscle to my Back and Shoulders, so I am experimenting with doing them 2x a week (different exercises M and F). We'll see.

Legs T-Th - I'm experimenting with legs right now. My lower body is much more muscular than my upper. Even when I am lazy, I retain muscle in my legs. I'm doing just bodyweight lunges, between 100-200 total (50-100 each side). I'm trying to focus my cardio on my lower body too - stepmill, treadmill (high incline) or crosstrainer at higher resistance. We'll see how that goes.

I usually train four days a week. I'm still trying to put on some size so i'm not doing much cardio at all these days.

Doing weights and cardio five days out of the week. Cardio is in the morning 45min and weights at night. Every night I work out a different body part. Sat and Sun off.

Once at my goal. I'm hoping to go down to 3 times a week of cardio.

Usually 3 days per week with weights while trying to add mass even with roids. Sometimes I train every other day on a three way split with two days off after 4-6 days in the gym but only while on steroids!.

If you are on roids you can train 4-5 days per week with weights and still grow BUT very very few will gain much on a consistant basis without over training by training more than three days per week on a three way split without roids. A few can gain well training 4 days per week without roids IF they are genetically gifted, don't have a tough job and don't have small children.

***IF your training, diet and rest are RIGHT ON then you could train like WARLOBO and still make good gains....thats training 6 days out of 11 with at least a day rest in between workouts with weights and two days off after 9 days....yet this may prove to be too much for many of you.
I have trained almost identically to Lobo but only while on roids and not always with that frequency ..... like I said fromn the start sometimes I will train every other day on a three way split and take two days off after I have done 4-6 workouts, and if I was really pushing hard I would usually just train every other day MON-WED and FRI.

But go ahead and believe those BS glossy bodybuilding mags, full of genetically gifted high dosing roid and GH using men and women that have no jobs outside bodybuilding.

If you don't believe me ladies then ask yourself....can I high bar squat 200 pounds DEEP 10 times?...this is attainable by almost all ladies IF they train correctly.

If you are not progressively gaining in strength and a little size then you are over training PERIOD...unless you have reached your natural genetic potential and I can assure you that few of you have.

If you are an average trainee with average genetics(95% of us) then train like I recommend in my sticky post and as I recommend in my opening statement on this thread..... or at most every other day on a three way split with two days off after 4-6 workouts , then you will increase your strength and mass quite a bit.

If you are training 5- 6 days per week with weights AND doing cardio you will add little muscle to your body and will be committing bodybuilding suicide.... UNLESS you use steroids...and even then you would gain better with fewer days in the gym per week.

RG:)

Is this assuming an excellent diet?

Because while I do agree with you *in general*, for me, I know my body and I know that without doing cardio I have a VERY hard time losing fat (with or without AAS). And add in a sometimes not-so-great diet, cardio is an necessity for me. Now, maybe I should change the way I do cardio and then I could do less - that is something I should think about. Luckily, I don't mind cardio.

I'm sure if I wanted to gain a lot more muscle I would have to limit my cardio, but in general, I am more concerned with keeping fat off. And my strength does increase pretty regularly. I can do cardio, lift and still gain muscle (when on a clean diet). No it isn't mass amount of muscle, but I don't compete in fitness, figure or BB - and the amount of muscle I can add is okay for me right now. There might be a point in time where I change that, we'll see! :) Especially since I am thinking about training for the Galaxy/Nova obstacle course......

And RG - I sent you a PM about another subject....

I was speaking of weight training mostly.

It does not matter how much you sleep or how well you eat, you simply will not gain very well training 5-6 times per week with weights unless you are on roids or are very genetically blessed but probably both. Now if you add cardio to that then it will make things worse.

I am not saying don't do cardio....I am saying that you should limit the days in the gym lifting weights. By all means do cardio 3-5 times per week if you need it for fat burning reasons...its far easier to recuperate form cardio than properly done weight training. Weight training improperly done won't do much except give you some tone.

So for most training naturally it makes good sence to train with weights MON-WED and FRI on a three way split hitting each muscle group directly once per week. Then you could do cardio 3-5 times per week.

If you ever really want to pack on some strength and size then you do need to limit the cardio to three times per week for 30-45 minutes per session.

Good luck

4 weights sessions and 2 karate classes (the karate is not for cardio per se, I like karate). I try to double up the bench and karate in one day as otherwise I may as well get a camp bed and put it in the corner in the sports centre lol.
