Hip joint pain. what could cause it?

It sucks, I have problems when I try to get into the car, I get this pain, when I bend or unbend, I also get it. Now it's so bad, I sometimes can hardly walk. I did X-Ray of my lower back earlier, it seems to be OK.

How long has this been going on for? Might want to start a stretching regimen...proper low back, abdominal, and hamstring flexibility is vital to a healthy low back/hip area.

I have a condition called hip bursitis. The bursa sac in the hip becomes irritated and causes that type of situation that you're describing. There also could be some type of fracture in the hip. You got the lower back x-rayed, but did the docs get a good look at the hip?

If you want to look at all the symptoms and causes of hip bursitis a yahoo search would give you lots of information on the condition and its causes. If I remember right the conditon will resolve with rest and ice or in more chronic cases a cortizone shot directly into the bursa(I had this).

I'm probably stuck with it because I have problems with my gait.

P.S.-Bulldog is definitely right. If you have inflammation that needs to be taken care of with NSAID'S or rest and ice, make sure you do that. Doc will know. But, once you get the inflammation down you should be on a stretching program, as well as, do range of motion exercises for the hip. If it's hip bursitis than it can come back after going away without exercise and stretching.

Is that a chronic problem, or more of an accute injury? I just did a search, and it looks like a short term injury more than something that would be chronic.

If it's chronic, what are your symptoms? I only ask because my girlfriend has hip problems, and she doesn't know what the fuck it is...her doctor is a moron too, and he doesn't know how to fix it.

It's funny you should ask, I studied the NASM CPT section on postural imbalances today.

Any of this sound familiar?
-Hamstring strain
-Groin strain
-Lower-back pain

You may have lumbo-pelvic-hip postural Distortion

Nate or myself three hours from now can advise you on corrective stretches and exercises (I haven't gotten to the stretching part yet :D)

casual out of curiousity have you ever tried trigger point therapy? It was worked wonders for me and flat-out miracles for others.

It's listed in medical definitions as an acute problem, but unfortunately that's not the case for some. I've went to message boards where people just can't get rid of it. Some of them maxed out on the cortisone shots.

My symptoms are that I have a slight bulge around where the ball socket of my hip is. I have a usual stiffness/tightness in the area with some mild intermittent pain. I think some people with the chronic cases have more pain than I do.

I don't think docs really understand why it happens sometimes. It could happen from trauma to the area, but sometimes it just develops for whatever reason. Hip bursitis is really a non-specific way of describing inflammation in that area.

If you find the right chiropractor they will probably know more about the condition. But its the MD that will be able to treat it with prescription meds or the cortisone shot right into the bursa area.

lol, this is the first I've ever heard about it. Might be a useful tool to know especially considering I'm getting into personal training.

I was born with hip dysplasia (the hip joint isn't fully formed). I get pains in the hip joint if I don't stretch my hip flexors and quads. (Leg bent back, lying on the back...not sure what that stretch is called)
