having problems working out hard enough...

i know i can work harder especially on my leg days, but the problem is that wheni do lunges (for eg) i do them w d/b's and can only carry up to a certain amount in each hand, though i know my legs can stand more weight. Should I drop the weight and do more reps..
i know myself this is the wrong thing to do.

I have avoided usuing machines for a while, as im sure its not doing my joints any good.

Ne suggestions please?
 
Wrist straps - they wrap around your wrists, then you wind the free end around the barbell/dumbbell shaft, and it takes the load off your forearms, allowing you to lift more weight for longer.
 
i guess i could try that..thanks
though next time i might give smalls suggestion a go..i used to use a bar, but stopped b/c i was worried about lifting it with my lax shoulder...
