Grip width on JM press

I tried them last night and couldn't tell they helped much. Maybe my width was off, how wode do you normally do them. I also did something where I kept my elbows into my side as much as possible, lowered the weight twards me feet as far as I could and pushed twards my feet. Used boards too. whats that called and how wide should me grip be on that?

I'm certainly no expert, and as I hear everyone does them slightly different. But I take a pretty close grip index and middle on smooth, elbows jammed against my sides, bring the bar down about 4-6 inches off mid chest, bring the bar back towards my face some then "try" and extend it back up
As the weight gets heavier the form gets sloppier, and my elbows come away from my side some

Hope it helped

I don't use boards for JM's boards are seperate!

Grip depends upon your body size and shape, I think. Basically you want to take a pretty narrow grip. I go a thumb from the smooth, but this is the narrowest grip I take on anything. Any narrower and I run into elbow problems as my forearms and biceps are compressing together at the bottom.

If you are doing a close grip board press, that is also a good tricep exercise, and taking the bar as low on the belly as possible is a good thing.
