I was out for my morning rollerblade session, cruising through the park as usual when I hear some barking. I look over to my left and there's some chick and her dog sitting on the grass about 20 feet away -- the dog is not leashed. It barks a few more times and then starts running at me.
I'm like "fuck..now what?". I'm new to bladeing, and not totally comfortable with my balance yet so I was leery about speeding up and trying to lose the dog. And from what I know, going faster just makes the dog want to chase you more. So I slow down as much as possible and hold out my hands. Say some shit like "good doggy" etc. The chick keeps yelling at the fucking dog to come back. The dog is not listening.
So it slams into me full tilt, I go flying into a tree and barley manage to remain upright. The dog has grabbed onto the bottom of my shorts and is growling/pulling/tying to bite my leg. Again, the girl from 20 feet away, yells at the dog to come back and then yells at me that the dog is "just playing around." I gave rover a good shove with one arm, and he jumped back a bit, but then the fucker latches onto my arm. At this point, I'm actually getting a little scared-- this is not a small dog and it's chewing on my forearm like a drumstick (fortunately, I was wearing a sweatshirt).
Now, I'm not proud of this, but I pulled back and kicked the dog in the head as hard as I could. I mean, I fucking nailed it. It's head snapped back and it fell down on the ground. Now the fucking girl, is freaking out screaming that I killed her dog and she's going to sue me, her boyfriend will kill me, etc, etc. I was pretty amped up on adrenaline at that point and I vaguely remember calling her a cunt and a few other names.
Anyway, I skated off and came home. The dog was still laying on he ground when I left -- it hadn’t' gotten up yet.
I'm thinking now I might have over-reacted. I don't know much about dogs and maybe it was just playing. I don't know.
I'm ok--the dogs teeth didn't penetrate my skin, but I've got some wicked bruises forming already.
Is it normal for dogs to do this??
What would you guys have done? I honestly feel bad for hurting the animal, and I'm more pissed at the owner than the pooch. I should have kicked her in the head too.
Also, should I maybe see a doctor just in case it had rabies or something? (I'm not sure if skin has to be broken for it to be transmitted).
