I think you were well within your rights. I will say however that several big dogs we've had, including a police-trained german, do play this way. And it is quite normal for them to apply pressure enough to give you bruises during the course of play; I don't know what kind of dog it was, but I know that with some of the dogs we've had, even through a sweatshirt the arm would have been mangled in no time. It may also have confused the dog since you stopped.

Again, I think you did the right thing if you felt threatened; and as others have pointed out, ultimately it is the owner's fault for failing to control the animal.

Dogs are generally tough, I'm sure it will be fine. Just take a different rollerblading route for awhile.
