Fructose & High Fructose Corn Syrup

I was always lead to believe fructose (which is in fruits) isn't a bad sugar. It has a relatively low GI and therefore shouldn't be damaging to injest it.

What makes this High Fructose Corn Syrup worse than plain old fructose?

in small to moderate amounts its good, but it can be stored as fat WITHOUT insulin (not a good thing for fruit over eaters).

corn syrup is mostly dextrose

high fructose corn syrup is mostly fructose but still some dextrose (so you get insulin raise as well)- this stuff is in everything and is not good for the sedentary or overeaters- it may along with high fat diets be one of the main factors in the rise in adult diabetes (insulin resistance) and obesity.

High fruc. corn syrup is BAD NEWS. This stuff is such a concentrated form of fructose that your liver sucks it up, and triggers an enzyme to say that your glycogen stores are full, this leads to adipose storage. But muscle glycogen didn't get filled up.

read the ingredient labels on everything you buy. high fructose is in sooo many products, even things you wouldn't expect it to be in like canned vegetables.

i found it in my honey mustard, ff mayo, pita bread, canned tomatoes, bread crumbs....i was able to find a lot of these products with no corn syrup at whole foods.
 
though i agree with you and appreciate your help, i cant help to think that people sometimes overreact about HFCS. I mean <1g in your slice of bread isnt going to affect you negatively, correct? Well you say, 2 pieces of bread, 7 days a week.... ok.. maybe 10g of HFCS total... spread over 7 days... come on.

that said, i won't hesitate to avoid it whenever possible... especially those that contain alot of it... like yogurt and such.
 
it's not the 1g in your bread that's bad for you...it's the total of all the HFCS you eat throughout the day that's "hidden" in so many food products.

Just check out the ingredients in some of those protein bars. As if a new flavor is going to fool us into not glimpsing at the nutrition facts!
