Well, I stretch heavily, but there are several reasons, including injuries, the fact that I am getting older and it is point of pride that I am still more flexible than my son, and that there are other things that I do that require far more flexibility that lifting.
As I said, if the stretching that you do helps limit the wear and tear on your joints, and allows you to fully perform all of the tasks that you set your mind to, you are stretching enough.
Extreme stretching is rarely necessary, however, it can have its place, such as recovering lost flexibility, working through an injury, etc.
