Figuring out your heartrate zone for cardio

I wanted to start a cardio program for myself, figuring i got a treadmill for Christmas and all.

Normally i see the calculation in your local fitness gym:

(220 - age) x 0.8 = upper limit

but since i'm just startin off i figure that there must be a better way to do it.

Note that i havent done cardio in a long time, although i do weight train about 4 to 5 times a week. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

220 - Age = Max

Anaerobic is usually around 80% - 90% of your Max
Aerobic 70% - 80%
Weight Loss 60% - 70%

220-age= max heart rate
max heart rate- resting heart rate= heart rate reserve (HRR)

HRR x (whatever percentage you want to work at)

(the product of those 2) + original resting heart rate =

....... actual target heart rate

(Karvonen formula)

the other formula usually low-balls too much. your THR will be ridiculously low. i believe its the edwards formula.
