I cant stand buying my kids cheap shit anymore. Like dollar toys and crap like that. In only ends up as a dog toy in the back yard anyway.... So I'm wondering if maybe My kids have become spoiled little brats due to all the money dad has now..

So I got the oldest boy and girl a Nintendo 3d and the youngest boy a new lap top for eater. now all of them have a Nintendo 3d, lap top, Ipod,Ipad,42 in Tv, Xbox, PS3, each one has their own ATV now built for their size. 125 for the oldest 75 for the girl and a 50 for the boy and a 450 for me. I refuse to buy cloths anywhere but the mall for all of them and now I am flat out running out of gift Ideas for birth days and holidays..

My oldest son works for me now and I do make him work hard cleaning, dishes, mowing the grass, labeling products and so on. But I pay him like 20 bucks and hour. I used to work all week for 3 bucks when I was his age..

At what point do Kids become spoiled brats and silver spoon babies or some shit like that?? My sons 13 now and never been grounded in his life.. Granted He's never done anything to warrant being grounded. But like maybe I should just make something up...

It just worries me. The other day my oldest son said to his mother ( were not living together) " Im just going to drop out of school and work for my dad"..... I don't want my kids giving up on themselves thinking dads monies always going to be there for them.. That is my biggest fear..

Sounds like you've raised so good kids if they haven't.done anything to warrant being grounded by 13 yet!

Personally I'd take his pay away for a week and make him work for free just for saying that to his mother. Money can disappear in a split second but no one can take away the knowledge he will earn at school.

Just my 2 cents. :) have a great Easter!

Dude My rensts were poor all the way till about the time I left lmao. I dropped out of school yong but still got my GED and went to work at 14 full time(moms signed me out of school). Later joined the army and got my education. Been working full time from that day on. And I dont have to explain all the hard work I put in around here the last few years. But that is the point. I worked for every last thing I have and still do now. I hope my kids do the same... Not turn into silver spoon kids.

Not necessarily a bad problem to have. You and your wifey split? That's shitty dude - you should try to work it out if at all possible. You're on the right path making you kid work and paying him, good for his constitution. But $20/hour? That's pretty excessive. I mowed something like 20 yards every two weeks, $5/lawn, working for my Dad. Dad was already a baller as an engineer but had the motivation to buy 12 houses and rent them out and start a landscaping company. My childhood was fixing up broken ass houses and mowing lawns and I loved every second of it. Do this, work your ass off, do a good job, and get paid was what my Dad instilled in me. I turned out pretty OK :)

Ya I think thats my problem. I want to give them everything because I was given nothing .. Guess I have to tone it down a bit.

I grew up so poor my parents cut the pockets out of my pants at Christmas time to give me something to play with.

just sayin'

My rents made me deliver 300+ papers for 3 years and I never saw a single dime of the money that I did not have to learn how to pick a lock to get. At 12-13 a won a 23K lawsuit and my parents kept all that too. My rents took more then they ever gave to me and that my friend is the sunny version of the story. Most people think they had it hard or bad but they got no fucking clue what hard or bad really is....But fuck the past anyway

yeah...as long as your kids don't grow up "entitled" you're ok

we tend to spoil my stepdaughter too much ..shes a good kid but lazy

she hit me up with "do you think I can go to greece this summer to study art?" ...shes gonna be 16
I said..hmm, how do you suppose I'm coming up with the money for that? she says...and I quote "well dad doesn't have to buy himself a new car this year does he?" because she knows he's thinking about it

I'm like .."uhmmm, no..but he worked for it so he can do what he wants with his money. what did you do to earn a trip overseas?"
her answer..."well I don't know"

that conversation worried me a little on a few points

sorry to hear things are on the splits with you and the missus
