Do Calories Count on Keto?

The Anabolic actually uses insulin to make you grow.. That's the point. You stay above maint calories even while getting into ketosis, and then once all glycogen is depleted from muscles and the liver, you carb up very intensely and use the insulin spike over the short term to cause your muscles to over fill and supercompensate. During the depletion, you become very insulin sensitive, and it's anabolic properties become more pronounced. I'm not advocating it for weight gain either, but that's how it works, Hoffmeister.

So, my weighing 195 means my BMR is 2340.

Would fat loss be more significant if I didn't do a "BMR -5%, -10%, etc" and just stayed 500 calories below maintenance everyday?

Also, to George Spellwin...Mr.X for Diet Board mod :)

Thanks, onename.

I looked up some info on it. Was just wondering what the rationale was behind eating above maintenance keto during the week.

The rest sounds like basically a CKD.

Hey PsychoSkitz, what's your approximate bf%? Not sure if you want my advice here, but if you 195 then you may want to start at about 2400-2500 kcal/day. The 500 below maintenance rule doesn't work for everyone - for me it's too much. If you eat 1800-1900 then I think that's way too low - better to overestimate on this to preserve muscle and keep your metabolism elevated. I'd suggest trying 2400 or so a day and see what happens. Good luck.

Dear PsychoSkitz,

If you stay 500 calories below BMR, which for you is about 20% below BMR, for too long. Then, your body, as a result, will lower the metabolic rate to match the daily calorie deficit. Therefore, I would recommend cycling calories at least 200cal up and down daily.

Mr.X
