Diet for a hard gainer - advice needed please!!

I have a VERY fast metabolism, have never put on any fat, never got chubby or flabby, even without cardio....so I have an idea....to gain weight how about if I had a McDonalds ie Big mac, fries & cheeseburger twice a week (or KFC) just to get some extra calories in and see how I get on?? I will still have my template diet ie chicken, Steak, fish, veggies, plenty of water, vits etc...also would it be ok if I have my mass gaining drinks (whey protein with carbs) with semi-skimmed milk to boost the protein/calorie content?? Im 38 and have been training for 7 years, 11% bodyfat, 14.5 stone, train 3 times a week with just 30 mins cardio a week.....once guy said my face is so lean it looks like im ready for a competition - yet I am supposed to be bulking!!! What do you think??
 
Cut the Cardio you dont need it your wasting time. I would perfer calories coming in clean but if you want to eat dirty and think it wont hurt go for it(your one of the lucky people on earth);)

fast food sucks. if you are a hard gainer you need masive cals so you will be forced to dirty it up but there are better choices. cheese steaks? your own homade burgers on sour dough rolls? etc. try potatoes. i would eat way more beef than any other especially fish. fish is for cutting thats it. take fish oil for its values.

Surely cardio is good for general health? Before I started doing it I got out of breath running up the stairs!
 
Yes it is very hard to get clean calories. For example, when I eat my two steaks that's 200 calories. I could go to McDonald's and have 3 double cheeseburgers and a fry and get waaaay more calories then 200.


If your metabolism allows for it then eat what you want...especially since you're bulking. Just make sure you get the shit you NEED.

Try to get three times your bodyweight in protein and two times your bodyweight in carbs and fats. That will get you to gain some weight. Drink whey and eat bagels covered in ANPB between meals. Drink whole milk with every meal. Beef!!!! As much beef as you can afford. Hit the dollar menu too lol.

yeh i'm eating bagels and milk between meals...I do that too...I'm eating a shitload of bananas and a shitload of oatmeal between meals as well..bulking like crazy

of course it is but you said you wanted to gain weight so we are trying to help you do that as you have asked us to. cardio is good for cardiovascular health. eating mcdonalds 2 times per wk is bad for your cardiovascular health. so what do you want to do gain weight or be healthy.

If your at the Bf you say you SHOULD not run out of breath running up stairs......Check your RHT if you run out of breath just running up stairs you may have more issues then gaining weight IMO.
 
How much calories are you consuming?
I'd cut the cardio and increase your calories with whole clean foods. Nothing like BIG lean muscles..
 
Cut the cardio and increase carbs. I am the same way and recently found the only thing that works is carbs, carbs, carbs. You have a high metabo. so you burn your energy alot faster so you need to overload on carbs so you have extra energy not being used and stored as fat. I tried eating mcdonalds for all the extra cals but honestly i am finding that whole foods like bread, rice, pasta are giving much better results then 2-3k cals a meal with fast food.
