Didn't lose weight

My girl is on Jenny Craig and they give her a weeks worth of meals which is about 1200 calories. She is about 5'6" and weighs about 180. We work out atleast 3-4 times a week doing 14minutes of HIIT on the eliptical. We'll then walk for 30 minutes. She went to weigh in and she didn't lose any weight. Any suggestion on why this might be?

Recomposition of the body, she put on muscle, took off some fat.

I would recommend she tracks her bodyfat and measurements.

1200 kcals is a VERY low amount of calories for a woman who is 180 lbs.

Wow, at 1200 cals and that height and weight you have to start losing as it's just a physiological certainty as that is way under maintenance.

The more bodyfat you have, the greater a calorie deficit you can have, however, I do think that a lot of the typical women's diets cause far more metabolic damage than good.

If they actually worked, then women wouldn't need to carry on being on things like weight watchers and Jenny Craig.

It it good for a kick start, however, as she is eating below her basal metabolic rate, the body thinks it is starving, slows the metabolism, the weight loss will come to a grinding halt, and there are very few people who can carry on eating really low calories.

Agree completely Tat. I would think she could safely add another 5-600 calories daily to her diet and have a better chance of losing weight (actual bodyfat) if she continued with exercise.

quick question if someone were to be anorexic then start to eat alot again for years after, would the metabolism kick back up and not be as slow as when they were anorexic

also for awhile she might not notice huge weight changes but more likely clothing changes.. things will start to fit better and feel looser. these are things to look for as well to help keep motivated

It is known that anorexics recover, I forget that if it 100 %, I think it depends on how low the body weight was and for how long.

Our bodies are designed to protect us from starvation, so all of our physiology is geared to maintain our weight/fat on reduced food.

However, if you have been morbidly obese, you will have more difficulty in maintaining weight.

I think if the anorexia was prolonged, a similar situation may exist
