Cortisone shot question?

Sassy69 said:
If they recommend a cortisone shot to help w/ the pain or give your body the means to heal a bit, go for it, but just dont' use that as the excuse to ignore the presence of an injury & continue training hard cuz it doesn't hurt after the shot. U know what we're sayin'! I used to go to this aerobics class where the instructor got regular cortisone shots for shin splints, and I was like, uh maybe you should consider a different profession.... instead of just getting the shots so you can continue to pound on your already aggravated shins....

Yea I know.. but I must admit I am a stubborn fool when it comes to training.. :worried:

I've been training thru this for a week.. I knew better but I did it anyway.. When it kept me up all night I knew something was wrong. The coritsone will help the inflamation but won't fix it... I think ....... hopefully I can get it in check with ice and some advil for the weekend .. rest and relax as much as I can and then come monday see whats what.

I don't want to further injure myself .. that would suck.. been there done that and have a surgery scar to prove it. I can't afford to not be able to train right now and rely only on diet for the next 7 weeks..... blah.

Having a high tolerance for pain is a disservice to me most of the time.. leads me to overlooking the obvious and just sucking it up. NOT good!

Gonna be smart about this one and rest.. talked to doc and if it persist go in on monday morn and let him take a look at it. Hope and pray its nothing serious

Hi Frisky, sorry to hear you are suffering.
For OTC joint anti inflammatories there are two I know, both topical creams/gels.
Voltaren Emulgel by Novartis and Feldene PGel by Pfizer. For a more natural approach you could try Rhuta Grav cream and supplement with MSM capsules.
Your doc might prescribe Celebrex but if you have a tear then sadly its gonna take a long time.... don't push it if you are in pain, it will only make it worse. Can you get an MRI done? Anyway hope you are feeling better.
