CKD Bulking variation. Carb up. READ!

Has any one ever had 2 carb ups on back to back nights doing CKD. I eat around 15-18 x bodyweight Sunday through Saturday evening (CKD protocol food ratios w/15 and below carbs). Then Satruday evening from 6-11 I have around 3 meals with about 500-600 carbs. I hammer my upper body Sunday morning and then do 20-30 min. cardio. This whole session is around 1 hour 45 min. I do not feel my body is carb filled enough. I have made gains for 3 weeks lifting but when I do my lower body Monday, I am a little dead. I was thinking about having the Saturday carb up, followed by CKD Sunday with alot lower calories. Stop eating around 2 o'clock. Then carb load again from 6-11. Has any one tried anything like this? Is eating all those carb in a short period of time bad. I think that maybe carbs spread out through the day would fill my glycogen better than a cram fest in 4 or 5 hours. Any comments on this. It is now Sunday after my upper body workout and I feel strong and thinner than yesterday, so I feel I need more carbs before my GRUELING leg workout tommorow. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Michael

Oh yeh, my stats are almost 6 foot, 178 pounds. I have some belly fat but want to get bigger with minimal fat gain. I take about 700 mill. of R-ALA before each carb meal along with 2-3 citrimax. On Saturday before carb up I do 1 hour of mod. to intense sprints, gike and punching bag, then wait 11/2 hours bfore the carb up, my body is totaly sucked dry after that and my mouth tastes like a have 20 nickels in it. Thats it.

Since you are only refeeding for a few hours on Saturday - and then depleting again Sunday morning - I don't see any problem with incorporating another short refeed Sunday night. You are probably right that you are not restoring glycogen levels (to say nothing about leptin) by having such short refeeds.

As you said yourself, you would probably be able to raise leptin levels more effectively by having longer, less extreme refeeds (e.g., spreading the carbs throughout a 24 hour period).

Here's an article from Lyle M. that goes into more detail about why longer refeeds are necessary (there's a pop-up, but it's nothing invasive). Check out the section under "Duration and Amount of Carb Load".

I recomend a 24-48 hour refeed. At your bodyweight, 1000-1200 grams of carbs would be about right. Just carb load until you begin to feel bloated and start to gain subcontainous water, then stop. You'll find it is fairly consistant for a given individual. I do NOT recomend multiple carbloading phases. Until you ahve been depleted of carbs for several days, the anabolic benefits of the carb load do not exist, so after one day of depleting you are gaining nothing of value. Also, if you are training that long in one session, what does your cycle look like? Because I know you are smart enough to not train that long without a heafty dose of recovery enhancing drugs when trying to gain size.
