Can't Do Real Squats

Bro, do not be afraid to start out light. Remember, lift with your head, not your ego. Perfection of form will lead to increases in strength.

Find your weakness, and strengthen it.

Good luck man!

lol, ill be moving soon, alaska sucks :D

by the end of the year ill be in Chino Hills, California, hopefully sometime next year if B Fold has another get together, ill fly out there to KY.

OH! When you get to Cali, say something like "Deads are bad for you back," so I have an excuse to come out there. ;)

Well this really bummed me out today. I've been doing hack squats ever since I got back into lifting last December, but I've trained my legs maybe 10 times since I started lifting, big mistake. I go to the gym today to do some real squats for the first time ever, and I just couldn't do em. I got the form down with the bar, and when I started doin em, I just didn't have the strength to squat 225. 135 was wayyyyyy too easy, but 225 just buried my ass.

So instead I set a PR on incline leg press to release my anger. 590 for my 5x5. Jesus my legs are weak, I guess that comes with being 6'5" and having long ass legs.

I'm gonna stick to incline legs press til I can 5x5 700, then I'll move onto squats again.

Dude, 135 on squats is TONS better for you than leg press in my opinion. Have you thought about doing 185? Throw a quarter on each side? Maybe some 10's? -- you can work your way up dude! I started off doing front squats at 135lbs in Janurary, and now I can do 275 for 1-2 reps... a mere 5 months later (actually, I could do that in like March -- so 3 months :) ) --

Seriously, if you can do the squats... do them. If you have a real reason, like you can't hold the bar with your shoulder because it will rip out of socket... then come talk to me. :)

I'm pretty much with everyone else here. Squat what you can, eventually you'll get up there. 135 on squat it gonna strengthen parts that anything on leg press isn't going to. I'm assuming when you started lifting, you couldn't hit 225 on bench easily, so you worked your way up instead of not benching. Why would squats be any different? Keep after it bro, and pretty soon 225 will be easy and you'll be hitting 315 soon. Good luck getting there. Even with 135, at least you're squatting. How many others in your gym are even doing that?

lol, i like deadlifts so i wont be saying that. how bout "cleans hurt my shoulders"? :P
