can you build stamina from weight training

I remember in high school taking a PE class and a teacher was a football coach and he wanted all of us to weight train because he said it build up endurance and stamina. My question is is this really true or is it just broscience. Seems to me that cardio will build up endurance and stamina not weight training
 
for anyone to think that you can train for a marathon by weight training is complete buffoonery.

having said that weight training does build SOME stamina and endurance. it is better than sitting on the couch
 
If you do high intensity weight training for sure you can build stamina
like high reps high sets = no need for cardio
